What's her body count so far in this show?
Her ex that died
The Geology professor
The police captain
The mine lady's husband
Were her and Navarro a thing? It's been hinted at but not overtly answered.
I think you summed that up pretty well, and precisely where it's headed
I had a phone call at the beginning of Ep 2 and saw the screaming corpse and wondered if that really happened or was a dream, along the same lines as the one eyed polar bear in the middle of town with the stuffed one found on the side of the Chief's bed after being awakened by the hand of a child.
I missed any mention of these events after they occurred, which is just preposterous. Any sign of life after being frozen for 72+ hours would be the focal point of the World, much less Ennis, AK.
Back to the tongue, SFP is spot on that it will be Annie's, and someone there was trying to regenerate her, but that still doesn't explain her death.

didn't you hear about the phone call with the nurse?
when i was reminded of that, i thought, "oh yeah", but i didn't understand any of the conext because jodie foster was also having another conversation with he police captain.

but the guy running in with chainsaw and the other guy taking a selfie was so stupid
This was so f*in dumb I stopped paying attention at that point and turned off the TV 5-10 min later.
I'll go back and watch, but this is on track to be much worse than season 2.

if this kind of shite didnt happen for real i would agree with you. it does though.

I thought the chainsaw, selfie, nurse/walkie talkie convo sequence just underscored that they live in a slapdick, godforsaken place and are woefully unprepared to deal with a murder, let alone a bunch of scientists freezing to death in grotesque fashion. And the one person in town who may have enough wherewithal to piece shite together(which is to say nothing of expertise) is a bitter, mean spirited bitch of a woman which raises its own set of issues.
Only thing that continually takes me out of it is that the two leads just aren’t super interesting at this point. Like, ok, they’re both brooding, broken people with a bunch of allusions to bad shite that has happened before to make them who they are. The difference with season 1 is we are introduced to Marty and Rust in present day, banged up form as they recount their past case. You can start to draw some conclusions about who they are and what motivates them from that contrast with each other and with their past/present selves. This season doesn’t have that to lean on. Instead it’s just two women being overly bitchy with one another over shite we haven’t been fully clued into yet and in a place that clearly sucks to live in (so why not leave?) I can watch shitty people be shitty and miserable but I need to know what keeps them going and so far I’m guessing it’s just Navarro looking after her sister/maintaining her culture (?). No idea what Foster’s motivation is; she doesn’t seem to actually like anyone. Rust at least had a well defined ethos and approach to life in S1.

Oh hey, SFP is here to talk down to everyone trying to make sense of the show! Now it’s a real True Detective thread!
It’s like 2014 all over again

When did they hint at that?
I may have misheard but I thought I caught something about her and Navarro being a thing.

Their familiarity, their animosity towards each other, she went to her house and let herself in, knew where she used to keep the canned goods. There are probably some other things I’m forgetting.
Maybe not the best clues but Jodie is a lesbian IRL and Navarro looks like a dyke. We’ll see where it goes.

Caught up on the first two episodes... Jumping in the thread.
Surprisingly impressed with this season thus far. 2/3 were shite compared to Season 1.
In a way, I like the tie in with Season 1, but also feels a little forced. Would have been cool as a throwback to Rust's dad and that being it... no need for the symbol. And if this shite ends up being a monster/extra terrestrial angle, I'll kick a baby.

No, the only one from the station who is presumed to be alive is Clark. Again, pay attention.

There’s definitely a reason the water keeps getting mentioned and that it’s getting worse.
Interesting that the lab/station folks are looking for the holy grale (so to speak). And that it’s being funded by the Tuttles (I appreciate this reference to S1 more than Rust’s Dad I think).
Folks were asking why Foster hated the song playing at the lab when they first showed up, the song was in her memory of with her and the kid.
I think the supernatural/spiritual parts fit here, but that’s just me. And I don’t mind that. The endless dark, the Native angle, basically living on the edge of the world. Makes sense it’d be a place people would consider “the veil” being thin.

So far, so good, imo. Let’s see where they take the story.

And the guy in a medically induced coma who they showed alive when he screamed...

I definitely got a The Thing vibe from that shot. Obviously, the reference to the thing hasn't been super subtle.
The question is... How did he survive? Was it the cellular degeneration stuff that the geology teacher was talking about?

The payoff better be good, here
They are leaning into S1 too damn much just keep us on the hook, IMO. I’m fine with it if the payoff is good

I am in complete agreement with you here. The payoff better be worth it and not just random references.

This whole season so far is all references to other things
Season 1
The Thing
Dyatlov Pass
Some others I'm sure I'm forgetting

Dyatlov pass is probably the biggest one

It ends with "start asking the right fricking questions"
D'oh
