The players do…they play on a year to year scholarship and play the games for that season without commitment beyond the regular season.

I only watched through half time before going out, but every time they showed Kirby you could tell he didn’t really care. He knew it was like playing a HS teams, his usual intensity was not there.
It was way too easy. They need to ban the fricking opt out or early transfer; I have no answers as to what the repercussion would be but it’s ridiculous.
Can’t be drafted that year? Can’t transfer until April? I have no idea just tossing out shite, but it needs to change.
FSU players had a chance to show the country who they were and prove the committee wrong but their best players were pussies and chose not to show up.
Yes they wouldn’t have won anyways, but it wouldn’t have been 63-3, maybe something like 35-17 or 41-21

What can change to fix things?
The committee just told players the team you are on matters more than how you play. Not sure what could fix it, but that definitely broke it.

CFB has always been the outlier in sports.
It's one of the only major sports in the world without a playoff and fans just accepted ridiculous championship outcomes because it was a fun and passionate product.
The fun and passionate part has been removed with the portal (kids have no allegiance to their school); with NIL (it's not amateur sports anymore); and with corporate interests (this year proved it's just a popularity contest).
They've neutered what made CFB great.

Why do you think it’ll change things?

So every game that isn’t a playoff game. No other bowl games mean anything.

You obviously know that there is too much money in sports for young athletes to play for us for free.
That money will dry up as boosters and fans get older. Younger people do not care about the sport, and youth participation is down. Assuming it continues down this path, unfettered free agency every single year will get old quick, and it'll be tough for fans to even buy in.

I was actually really hoping Kirby would make a comment on it. That wasn’t a game at all

What's the point of this game when you have the towel boy playing?
ESPN and their co-conspirators have gone so overboard rigging the sport, they've ruined it.

How are they going to force players to play?
Posted on 12/31/23 at 12:55 am to Kinderman
Nil and transfer portal obviously need strict guidelines which I can not believe there aren’t any. It’s a disgrace to the sport.

They can’t force the players to play. It’s a ridiculous notion. They will just have an “injury” if need be. You don’t want guys who don’t want to play out there anyway.

Yes, bad scrimmages at that for the most part

The first thing CFB needs to do is decide what the hell its going to be. Is it an amateur league of student athletes or are they a pro league?
Right now, they’re acting like both. They’re allowing players to get paid like pros but they’re giving players the options/freedoms to move around/leave like any other student.
Doing both is a disaster and it was obvious to a lot of people that it would be. There is no way to have your cake and eat it too. Either be a pro league, introduce contracts/salary caps and tell kids they’re not bouncing around all over the country anymore, or go back to when the scholarship/stipend was the only allowable benefit (if you want to get paid, you simply can’t play CFB period).
Yeah easier said than done but CFB dies if they don’t do one or the other.

One way to help solve this is an agreement in the NIL deal requiring the player to play in the bowl games.
Posted on 12/31/23 at 8:01 am to Kinderman
There are too many bowl games. They need to get rid of four or five of them.
But CFB is broken and I don’t know if it can be fixed. I think the only hope is the XFL/USFL goes to a twelve team league and drafts kids from high school on three year contracts. Then kids who want to go pro can and college kids can become amateur again and we can go back to the BCS bowl era type system.
