Nikki Haley declined to say that slavery was a cause of the Civil War on Wednesday evening, placing the blame, instead, on the role of government.
The former UN Ambassador and South Carolina governor, who has seen her star rise in the first-in-the-nation primary state, was appearing at a town hall event in Berlin, New Hampshire, when a voter asked her to identify the cause of the war.
“I think the cause of the Civil War was basically how government was going to run,” she responded. “The freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do. What do you think the cause of the Civil War was or argument?”
The questioner, who could not be easily heard off camera, was apparently unpersuaded by Haley’s response. When she asked him what he believed the cause of the war was, he replied that he wasn’t running for president.
“I think it always comes down to the role of government and what the rights of the people are,” Haley replied. “And I will always stand by the fact that I think government was intended to secure the rights and freedoms of the people. It was never meant to be all things to all people. Government doesn’t need to tell you how to live your life. They don’t need to tell you what you can and can’t do. They don’t need to be a part of your life. They need to make sure that you have freedom. We need to have capitalism. We need to have economic freedom. We need to make sure that we do all things so that individuals have the liberties so that they can have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to do or be anything they want to be without government getting in the way.”
When the questioner said it was “astonishing” to hear her respond “without mentioning the word slavery,” Haley replied: “What do you want me to say about slavery?” She then asked for the next question.

Slavery was part of it, but not all of it like some have made it out to be.

Everyone understands that it wasn't entirely about slavery, but it's almost as if people are afraid to say it.
... strange

True. It's complicated and slavery was a huge factor but it's hard to say it was the root cause.

I'm more concerned about the wars this neocon foreigner is trying to get us into now.

I’m a descendent of a member of the Louisiana confederate cavalry and proud of it but to act like it wasn’t about slavery is a joke. For Nikki to not plainly address it shows she’s trying to pander to what she thinks republicans want to hear. This is the same chick that removed the confederate battle flag in South Carolina and bent the knee to BLM.
Slavery needed to be ended as a practice in the U.S. The real area of discussion was how to go about it and that’s where I believe both free states and slave states failed to compromise.

Be able to abolish federal laws they didn’t agree with. Slavery was just one of them.

The war was about preserving the nation. Lincoln was known to have said preservation of the nation was more important than slavery. R.E. Lee was known to have said the same.

She should be asked about the "forever" wars that her GOPe wants the US to always be in.

political engineering
So Nimrata, what is your stance on the illegalities of monopolists like Larry Fink?
And would you support the continued deep state treachery's role in creating control mechanisms for other governments around the globe?
And Nikki, where are you on the media cabal running massive coordinated propaganda and psychological warfare ops against citizens all around the world?
Say Nikki, how do you feel about the election theft of 2020?
How soon would you be pardoning the victims of the globalist controlled J6 false flag, black swan absurdity?
Will you be reinforcing anti-monopoly law with so many of the mega corporations who increasingly find themselves involved in fascist efforts against US citizens and other populations around the world?
Whatever may be said about slavery in 2023-24 is irrelevant facing the potential enslavement of all intellect and free people everywhere

Wait until the reporter learns that ole Abe didn't sign the Emancipation Proclamation until his army was getting its collective arse handed to them for 15 straight months.
Then it only freed slaves in the rebellion States....
But not in certain areas inside of rebellion States.....
And not for slave holding border States......
Also admitted West Virginia to the Union with it's slaves...
But also offered for the Rebellion States to keep slaves for another 35 years if they just came back to the Union.
Totally fought a War over slavery, not money or power and the manner in which the Country would operate.

The South didn’t want control of the Union.
It wasn’t s civil war.
*I see there are 9 who don't accept the truth. Sad!

They were both wrong, just ask the former Soviet Republic's if they should have been allowed to leave.

Indeed. Slavery is a form of theft of one's time/productivity. (so is communism)

The baws in South Carolina could have used some cooler heads, instead they shot up Ft. Sumpter. With the industrial revolution coming to agriculture, slavery would have become uneconomical and largely obsolete had they just waited.
