I did not find the OP statement trite. It is straight and to the point for the majority of these situations. I did not find it trite but refreshingly succinct.

They came in when we had only 39 scholarship athletes. They helped build up the roster so we could compete the last two years and now have to be show the door. Everyone is sticking around for the bowl in the age of opt outs and transfer portal too. I get it’s a business but damn that sucks for the players that poured their heart and soul into the program. Thank you to them

I get what you are saying but processing was a thing even before the portal and NIL. You can add to that stringing recruits along until signing day or near to it back when the 25 man class cap existed. I always hated that side of the “business”

He had success at lower levels, but I'm not sure jumping around to 5 different schools is the best type of college experience.

LSU (2016)
East Mississippi (2017)
Missouri (2018)
Nicholls (2019–2021)

Kid grew up here and dreamed of wearing the purple and gold. Can’t remember where he finished but I remember kind of pissed he signed. Thought if we didn’t want him the entire time why come now and pass on a piece of paper that opens doors everywhere.

No one is forced to make these decisions

In the end, kids want to actually play. There isn’t a ton of processing one they are on campus.

This era sucks. It’s becoming more like the NFL.
… YES INDEED..we get to watch another stage of free agency now in college football.. we will witness losing top players to other schools who have more Alumni or Business associate “banks” who can offer the most money to pursue a top notch player from one college team to another..without any limit this is just like MLB free agency these days.. the skies the limit.. highest bidder wins..add opt outs for college games and the excitement of college football has and will dwindle down to the excitement of professional football or wrestling at best.. it’s ruined the amateur game..

“Processing “ of players will only accelerate with maturing of NIL. When players who were given a chance and subsequently succeeded turn their backs on that team for supposed greener pastures, there will be more “Primetime” reactions to drop players who aren’t developing as quickly as necessary.

In short, this NIL professionalization will lead to less loyalty from players, and subsequently less loyalty from teams. Chasing money as a sole priority will frequently lead to dissatisfaction. While the upper echelon players will profit more financially, this mercenary style will come at a personal cost. And, the slower to develop kid will be “processed” more quickly.

Nothing is free; all pay the cost.

1) they're not being tossed out on their asses. They're being told they're not going to play here and there may be better opportunities for them elsewhere. Our coaches and staff may even help them find a new home. The coaching community talks

2) kids choose to "bet on themselves" and come to LSU over lower level schools. They will probably end up at the level they should have gone to originally

3) CFB is a multi-billion dollar business where student athletes are now paid. The coach's only responsibility is to the university that's paying him 100 million dollars

If they aren’t discipline problems, most guys will be allowed to hang around and get their degrees if they choose to. The team needs depth, practice bodies, and guys to play special teams. The staff would prefer those spots go to younger players, but I don’t think they are literally telling guys to hit the bricks. Not unless the roster crunch gets severe.

The staff knows the truth. Most kids are going to leave to get playing time elsewhere when they are told they aren’t ever going to crack the 2 deep here. The staff likely gives them all great recommendations to any coach who comes asking and helps them find a good landing spot when they can.

You are severely overestimating this.

With some exceptions, this will mostly take care of itself. Players will enter the portal after the bowl game, players will enter the draft, players will have academic and injury issues and then more players will enter the portal after the spring.

LSU football exists to win, not to be nice to good kids.

Well you always lose kids during spring ball so things usually sort themselves out. I would also take a guess that 2 specialists on scholarship might move on for playing time in Dibert and Peyton Todd unless Todd is the starting punter this year. They have a highly rated kicker or punter coming in, not sure which he is but he’s on scholarship so you aren’t carrying 5 scholarship K/P. Once they start practicing and things start to show the pecking order and guys see how they stack up in their position groups, you will have guys looking for other options. It’s college football now.
