Don’t feel bad for them. They will be moving on to some other team that will maybe give them a better opportunity at playing time and development. A better opportunity to showcase their abilities. What good are we doing them if we keep them knowing that they will continue to ride the bench.
As a player I would much rather a coach be up front and honest with me so I can do what best for my future. These guys know what’s up. They understand for the most part it’s all part of the process.

Honest question. Why do you make so many threads? And they are all terrible. Why don’t you post these on Facebook

It’s my understanding that football scholarships are for 4 years.

One played for the Saints. A was an assistant S&C Coach for the Cowboys. He also worked for Dr James Andrews, with the help in rehabbing.

The second, is an Orthopedic Doctor, in the BTR area.

Lindsey Scott is the perfect example. Kid worked in and out of the class room Ivy League waiting. LSU calls at the final hour because we didn’t take a QB. Kid grew up here and dreamed of wearing the purple and gold. Can’t remember where he finished but I remember kind of pissed he signed. Thought if we didn’t want him the entire time why come now and pass on a piece of paper that opens doors everywhere.

Bounced around. JUCO, Mizzou, Nichols, finished at Incarnate Word.

He was FCS player of the year in 2022 setting an FCS record with 60 passing TDs.

quote:

Incarnate Word quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. won the 2022 Walter Payton Award as the best offensive player in FCS football. Scott is the first UIW player to win the award in its 36-year history after throwing for 4,686 yards, 60 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, while rushing for 712 yards and 11 touchdowns. Scott led UIW to its first-ever FCS semifinals appearance.

Probably helped being a 24 year old QB playing against FCS competition.

Well you always lose kids during spring ball so things usually sort themselves out. I would also take a guess that 2 specialists on scholarship might move on for playing time in Dibert and Peyton Todd unless Todd is the starting punter this year. They have a highly rated kicker or punter coming in, not sure which he is but he’s on scholarship so you aren’t carrying 5 scholarship K/P. Once they start practicing and things start to show the pecking order and guys see how they stack up in their position groups, you will have guys looking for other options. It’s college football now.

Todd is the only scholarship punter on the team currently.

3 kickers on scholarship does seem extreme.

They came in when we had only 39 scholarship athletes. They helped build up the roster so we could compete the last two years and now have to be show the door.

I get what you are saying but the players wanted this so I do not feel sorry for them. They had security before but demanded this. More times than not the grass look great but is not always greener on the other side.

That's professional sports for you. It's a product of free agency before you've proven yourself on the field

This is why I am ok with players leaving by free transfer. As many transfers as they want. These scholarships are for 1 year. If schools want more commitment, then the scholarships have to be 4 years guaranteed. It’s hypocritical as fans to complain if Lance Heard wants to leave, but the school can cut anyone after a year.

I don’t understand, is that not what they are? I drew the conclusion that if you get offered an NIL ‘scholarship’ that it’s year to year…a true football scholarship out of high school is 4 years. Otherwise why on earth would you need to process players?

When you’re in the head coach’s office and he offers you a scholarship to play football…that’s for 4 years. I could be totally off, but my son is committed and that’s the expectation.

I’ve read that. Just did again. ‘Poor performance” I take to mean in other duties…’school’.

SEC football scholarships are tuition, room, board, academic assistance +books, medical….and base NIL $…for 4 years. The SEC school my son has committed to follows that up with…if you exhaust your (4 year) eligibility they have a 100% graduation rate.

Why would you need to PROCESS a kid if the scholarships were year to year? To stay on topic.

Process is just another way to say we no longer want you here. It is not one specific thing nor is it something new. Kids were being processed eons ago. Committed recruits are processed all the time. It is a term used to simply mean the staff no longer wants the kid on the team taking up a scholarship for whatever reason. It could be something the kid did disciplinary wise or simply the staff felt they had an area of more pressing need for that scholarship.

Bottom line, if that staff wants to "process" your kid (they no longer want him on that team), they will find a way to make that happen and there is nothing you nor he can do about it.

Who tf are we going to process? If someone’s not good enough to play in the offense just give them a shot on D.

Maybe Kelly is using the bowl as an interview for them for other teams.

I sure hope not. He needs to leave them in BR and “interview”/play the kids who will be contributing to LSU next year.
