So if I want it I can get a Polaris Ranger 700HD given to me. Owner says it hasn't ran in 1.5 yrs, they bought a new one because it was running hot.

I am not sure on the hours on it but it has brand new tires.

With the price of SxS now I would think even if it cost me 3-4k to get this thing running I should be coming out way ahead.

That being said I don't know jack about the repair cost on these things or the history on the particular model.

Any input appreciated.

Could be as simple as doing an engine rebuild...would after reported running hot. If all else looks good and manageable go for it.

Do it.

Has some cosmetic issues that need fixing but overall it doesn't look too bad. Looks like a 10+yr old SxS that needs some TLC.

I am struggling finding the years they made this model, first year was 2009.

I don’t think that’s correct. My 2018 or 2019 1000 XP was 15 or 16k.

My ranger model is notorious for having air in the coolant system if not properly "burped" when changed. Could be that simple. Also test for fuel pressure and spark. If I remember correctly, the fuel pump is inside the tank and is prone to failure.

Had a crew given to me by a camp member with a blow engine. Pressure washer, new shocks, grease done myself less and a grand. Polaris dealer installed new engine for 3700.00. It runs great for less than 5 grand..

Go price a new 1000 XP EPS. By the time time you buy a roof, winch and windshield with tax it’s going to be 20K+

I sold my 2019 last fall for 17,500.

The wife tax on keeping a busted up sxs in the garage while you work on it can add up quick, but a new machine is gonna cost way more any way you slice it. New machines are nicer and more capable.

First couple google results say the ECU module would go out and not turn on the fan, that’s about $400 and mins to change out. Coolant system parts will go up or down from there, outside shot a simple flush could fix it, just comes down to what your time is worth. I’d be on my way to pick it up but I enjoy fooling with them and have a place to work on it.

Last time I was in this situation, all it took was cleaning the carb and a new battery. I’d be all over it.

Don’t know where you’re located but My FIL used a guy here in Slidell to repair the carb on his 23y old Yamaha atv. Guy did a great job. Also recently used him to repair the piston and rings on his Honda pioneer bc he didn’t spray his air filter and dust got into the engine. The engine was burning a ton of oil. So far so good with that repair as well.

Give it to you for free? Take it

Might find it’s a simple fix. If you find it’s not worth the trouble just sell it for parts at least you’ll pocket a little money

I wasn’t clear. That’s what one would cost today.
