I’m not sure who wrote this, but it tells you everything you need to know about Willie Green and why he’s not a good fit for the Pelicans.

That article/write-up is top notch. Great breakdown on the issue many people here have been stating.

Willie’s rotations/substitutions are headscratching at times.

He preaches we need to shoot more 3’s but doesn’t consistently play the shooters

Pretty damning.

The modern nba is about 3 point shooting. That's it. The team that makes the most 3s usually wins.

Willie doesn't get it

I just read that and came here to see if it had been posted. That’s about as good of a breakdown as I’ve ever seen. It lines up with a lot of the complaints about Willie.

This is great. It’s everything we see just laid out with facts. There is zero reason a lineup of Hawk, Trey, CJ, Zion and Naji/Herb hasn’t been used. He wants to jam the paint with Zion, JV and BI. It’s the dumbest lineup. 3 guys occupying the same general space.

He is a great man and a average at best in game coach.

Honestly, I'm starting to have a hard time justifying minutes for Jose.

That is good stuff. I don't think we need to get rid of Willie Green, I just think he needs to fix these issues. They are glaring at this point. Every season things come up that coaches need to fix, even with the dominant teams. The coach just needs to get together with his staff and fix it.
Part of the problem I'm assuming is that Willie's never had a full roster like he's had now due to injuries and he's been so used to putting out a defensive minded lineup out there that he thinks he still needs to do it now. Defense matters less at the end of games, all star offense trumps it every time. The refs have favored the offensive star over a good defender late in the 4th quarter forever. Did we really think Herb or Dyson was stopping Ja from getting up a good shot with the help of the ref's whistle if need be? The point is to not let it get to that point. We got the 24 point lead by defense leading to offense. Offense needs to be the answer to not blowing these leads.

I was a Willie defender but the evidence is damning. Good thing his contract is up after this year. Maybe we can bring in Ty Lue if the clippers stumble

My willie ain’t waggin’, either.

We do have a problem. Willie is popular with the team and they seem to play hard for him. The issue has to be finessed.

Wasn’t long ago “injuries” were an excuse for Willie when we routinely squandered large leads late in games

Will try this again since it was poorly received early in the year. Willie would not be picked up as an HC if he were canned by us. That shows ya what your holding, and what you’re holding is a dime a dozen HC

Another tidbit from Will Guillory's article today:

quote:

Through the first 28 games of the season, they’ve outscored their opponents by 169 points in the first half. Only the league-leading Boston Celtics have a larger first-half point differential. Conversely, New Orleans has been outscored by 113 points in the second half this year, which ranks 26th in the NBA. They go from being a top-5 team in the first half to a bottom-dweller once intermission ends.

Credit to Willie for getting them ready to play early on, but he gets the blame for the 2nd half performances as well.

This is glaringly obvious tonight. Take out two shooters (trey and CJ) and replace them with naji and Jose. One of those should be hawk, but nope, now we have Robinson Earl in

This....I do think Willie has done a good job with team culture and getting folks to want to stay and play here, as that I always thought was the biggest challenge here.

But with the 2 big stars he has not seemingly been able to crack that code and get them to play enough games or to play hard in enough games to maximize what this collection of players could be.
