Completely ignoring the politics, this is a strong flag design, even in different colors
I love a good St. Andrew's cross flag.
Even looks good with a crest

The star represents the North Star state. The dark blue color roughly emulates the outline of Minnesota.

When did Solmilia steal the Bonnie Blue???

I think a flag should be simple enough that school children could draw a decent approximation of it. Their original flag, Louisiana's current flag, etc, are too busy for their own good.
why the frick would school children need to draw a decent approximation of a state flag?

The flag that it replaces has only been in place since 1983. Here are the historical flags of Minnesota (New replacement will be official on May 11, 2024):
1983 - 2024
1957 - 1983
1893 - 1957 (side 1)
1893 - 1957 (side 2)
1983 - 2024
1957 - 1983
1893 - 1957 (side 1)
1893 - 1957 (side 2)

I kind of dig the idea of a 2-sided flag
Never realized that it was a thing.

My sister in law works for the state gov in MN and she said the reason they changed it is because the people working in the fields on the old flag are Native Americans....lol.
Yeah no, its a white guy plowing a field with his shotgun resting against a stump. A Native American is riding away via horseback. Your sister in law is an idiot

Oregon still uses a 2-sided flag (at least from what I've seen). Oregon appears to be the only state that still uses different sides on their flag.
Oregon Side 1
Oregon Side 2

Because the entire purpose of a flag is to be recognizable at a distance: on a building, ship, or battlefield. Flags with detailed little pictures on them don't satisfy that goal particularly well.
There's a reason that, historically, flags and crests weren't the same. Seals and crests were more detailed in order to be more difficult to forge. Sticking a complicated crest/seal on a flag defies the purpose of a flag.

“Minnesota is changing its state flag to replace a design that has been criticized for being offensive, particularly by Native Americans. The current flag, dating back to 1957, features a depiction that some interpret as referencing the displacement of Native Americans in the state”

I was disappointed at first, but now I’m all for the new flag. Some people were offended by their own interpretation of the old the flag.

so your point here is that school
age children should be able to differentiate between flags, but you agree with those saying that Louisiana’s very unique flag needs to be more like the other vague flags. got it.
