re: What do the LSU coaches think of Nussmeier’s potential?

I think it depends on what QBs enter the portal with interest in LSU. I also believe that competition for QB1 is best for Nuss and LSU.

Ive already got Nuss at 300-1 to win the Heisman next year. Got a long wheel base ten on it to pay out 30k.

Why don't you pay attention when Kelly is talking about using the Portal to get reinforcements.
... Kelly has said repeatedly that he has two starting QBs on the team.
You can't listen to what a coach says publicly.

I think they know he's JAG and B is the answer. Otherwise they would have went with him last year.
So, the fact they went with a guy who ended up being the best QB in the country makes him JAG?

Dude has been at LSU for years and hasn't broken through.
He has been here three years. He redshirted one year and sat behind the guy who ended up being the best QB in the country. I am not saying this MAKES him Joe Burrow, but the same thing HAPPENED to Joe Burrow. And he only sat behind the best guy in his conference at Ohio State.

so, like Bo Nix
You mean have a great defense while throwing the ball 2 yards past the LOS and having skilled players take it for big YAC…sure, I’ll take that.

Go Get Pratt from Tulane once he hits the Portal. We all know that Nuss is not the answer. He has shown that time and time again when given the opportunity. Sure he has had some bright spots but even in those games he has thrown terrible pics.
There is quite literally 0 chance that Pratt is going anywhere unless he is promised the starting role outright with no competition.
He could enter the draft or stay at Tulane and be drafted fairly well.

I think its the answer though if they think he is something similar to the example you gave in answer A in your OP. Nuss is the starter and they will go out and do something similar to what A&M did two years ago and get a Max Johnson type with some P5 experience who came in knowing he was likely going to backup the 4-5 star recruited kid.

Whether LSU goes after one - and which one - depends on the answer to that question.
I disagree. LSU should always look to add talent if it's available.
Next year you'll have Nuss as a starter with a backup who has taken like what, 3 snaps?
They 100% should go get a portal QB, regardless if they think Nuss is starting material or not.

It’s hard to see Nuss creating opportunities with his running, but I like the idea of a gunslinger back there.

Neither Joe Burrow nor Jayden Daniels were the best players in the country prior to their Sr years at LSU. As a matter of fact, most would say they were JAG's prior to their Sr campaigns. But what they have in common, was that they were both better than Nussmeier. Look, I wish Nuss could become what those two became. Hell, I'd take something less, if our defense was elite. But time hasn't told a tale in that favor.

It’s not make or break for me, but his legs were a difference maker on a lot of scoring drives.

I get it. We haven’t seen a TON of snaps from Nuss. But I feel like the answer to your question is VERY obvious.. Nuss will start next year.
Look at what JD5 turned out to be. And remember that Nuss battled him ALL off season for the starting role.
And then add that to the snaps that we HAVE seen from Nuss..
Obviously there is only one JD5 in LSU history. And he FAR exceeded expectations.
But I think it’s safe to expect a VERY explosive offense next year. Nuss’s arm is beyond special. If he’s accurate with the ball and can half arse read a defense he will be just fine.. especially given he will have a HELL of a OL, a great stable of backs and a great WR lineup to work with.

I think he's a better fit for a team like Oregon where the offense is designed for a drop back passer to make quick throws. In the SEC you need a duel threat QB & it looks like that's what Kelly wants so I expect him to pull someone from the transfer portal.

This doesn't answer the question. Do you go out and get competition and depth? Or do you get a guaranteed QB1 that will require the promise of a starting position, thus ending in Nussmeier's transfer?
In both situations, they went out and got a portal QB. But the end result is different.
I want whatever is best for LSU and results in more wins, but I just don't know what the coaches think about Nuss. It will be interesting to follow.

Exactly. A player like Daniels is the exception and it would be foolish to build an offense around having a player like him.
I think Kelly prefers the Georgia/Michigan route, where it is possible to win with a good/not great QB. He just caught lightening in a bottle with Daniels.

Or maybe they think he's going to be fantastic.
Apparently not being able to beat out Jayden fricking Daniels makes you just another guy.

Why would it be “foolish” to build an offense around a player like JD? LSU literally has the best offense in college football…and has the chance to have a 10 win season with literally one of the worst defenses. Bama might win a NC because they have a QB very similar.

Since when? A dual threat QB hasn't won the SEC since Jalen Hurts in 2016.
There's only four QBs in 2023 with over 400 yards rushing on the year - Daniels, Thorne, Jefferson, Milroe.
There's probably only three true dual threat QBs in the conference: Daniels, Milroe and Dart. Possibly Jefferson.

You mean the QBs for 3 of the top 4 scoring offenses in the SEC?
