Big target (6’3, 200) with big play ability Douglas TD catch

LSU finished second for Douglas out of HS. LSU and Napier went head to head for him for the February signing period.

Real interesting guy here. Has a lot of ability. Missed most of the year to injury.

I remember watching the Kentucky game, and the play he got hurt on was a spectacular catch down the sideline

I may be in the minority opinion on this, but WR is the one position I wouldn't mind us only building organically. There is always a ton of talent in state and while we may lack some experience there for next season, we still have a lot of potential in the room already.

I don't really feel that way about any other positions. I'd like the traditional recruiting to be the foundation. Building the program is more sustainable than building a team each year. But the portal can always offer upgrades, especially as we're trying to work back to the upper levels of the sport.

WR just feels like a spot where we should never have to do that though.

He's made some big time plays at UF, just never got targeted much as they seemed to be in love with Pearsall

I could see us looking at him

I agree, the only way we should take a WR is it it’s legitimately a player that has the tape and physical tools to be our number 1 immediately and compete for the Biletnikoff … Keon Coleman level, otherwise play the studs we already have on the roster.

Assuming Lacy comes back, I think they will only add a WR if it's someone who can come in and be WR1 or WR2 right away. Lots of young talented depth at the position

Beyond Lacy and an extremely small sample size from Hilton, we have no receivers with any experience next year.

Yes, we do always seem to have guys step up and become great, but the fact that it's a huge question mark with the entire WR room, I don't see why we wouldn't go pluck some good ones in the portal.

I'd have to imagine we're destination #1 for anyone looking to make a move.

You do realize this statement will be eternally true if the staff portals in new players instead of letting the players they recruited get experience.

I feel like we need 1 WR out of the portal. We wanted him before; so, he'd be a take IMO.

This is exactly correct.

And to a certain degree, if you keep doing it, you're outsourcing your player development to other programs, and generally failing programs.

If we’re grabbing a WR from the portal, let’s make it one experienced starter who can come in and lock down a spot and be reliable.

Our best 2 WRs were in house. Our #3 was a transfer, but has been in the program 2 years now and would be going into his 3rd.

Ironically, outside of Anderson and Lacy, LSU has not had WR talent that was not directly recruited to the program.

Last year, the top 4 WRs and top 5 pass catcher were original LSU recruits. Lacy was 6th.

This year, top 2 WRs and top 3 pass catchers are LSU recruits, and Lacy is developing at LSU, so he would be a transfer but in his 3rd year here.

Anderson was one year at Bama but injured for it, so really his development is taking place at LSU.

Still, you are right, too many at a position wastes the talent in house from getting experience, so I'd be fine with taking 1 if it was a top flight WR.

Agree. You take 1 if and only if, it’s someone who can produce like a #1. Next year will depend on Hilton, Anderson and Lacy’s development. The younger guys will come along. Will be fun to watch Shelton, KP and JB evolve over the next year because the talent is undeniable. Which could lead up to the tight ends being a bigger focus early on in the year until they build some trust.

100% right. No issue with Douglas but we are loaded here. I kind of regret that we even took Lacy in the portal when we did. The Louisiana WR crop has been incredible, so I’d rather focus elsewhere in the portal.

Yep agreed thats why i want Will Sheppard from Vandy. A true target #1 guy and then you have more upside playmakers like Lacy and Hilton opposite of him.

I agree with your thinking. I also see where taking one wouldn't be a big deal. Year to year our roster has 8-10 dead weight guys taking them. Since we are truly accepting college football at the highest level as a business, I say treat it like one. Start making cuts. These "kids" can learn about rejection. Can't expect to be treated as kid in this situation yet treated like a adult while razing college campuses protesting your cause. They're either kids or adults not both. It's time these institutions of higher education starting teaching these people something valuable again. Real world rejection can be one of them.
