Tyler Van Dyke from Miami has hit the portal

He sucks. They benched him, and then the kid who started after him got injured.

This may be an unpopular opinion but don't be surprised to see a QB land at LSU through the portal. Daniels was no doubt the best player in college this past season. Without Jones and Campbell this is not the case. QBs will be jumping at a chance to play behind those guys.

We actually need one alot of people don't want to hear it. If Nuss goes down or banged up you have Collins with no college game experience and a freshman that graduated a year early on scholarship. Collins only handed the ball off to kill clock for anyone saying he played. At minimum we need a 1yr rental with college game experience. Also before someone attacks me I didn't say anything about Nuss not being the starter.

Also not saying Collins or Hurley can't be good in future.

We will definitely add a QB through the portal. Neither Collins or Hurley would be ready to play in the SEC. You need a game-ready Nuss backup.

Honest question - is it worth losing Holly or one of our current commits over?

i mean he has shown a lot more than holly at this level. You take the best players you can, if that means you lose an unproven guy or two...who cares.

if trevor wants in, he is 100% a take. he is proven at this level

same with QB. if we can get a stud QB out the portal you 100% take. I liek Nuss but he has to compete. if he gets beat out, oh well.

Exactly.

No way you turn down any player that would make the team better, whether as a backup or starter.

You never know what happens with injuries, development, etc. If Nuss gets hurt the same people saying don't take a QB will be having a fit that we don't have a decent back up.

Possibly a WR1 if there is one available.

Kelly is going to take a hard look at that receiver from ND that just hopped in.

You weren't having a fit when RS freshman Nuss was the only backup option for JD. Nobody called for an additional transfer for depth or "competition". Most QBs aren't coming without an assurance they won't waste their remaining eligibility on a bench.

I think most people agree they will add someone. The question is if it’s for depth and competition, or if a QB good enough to guarantee a starting spot comes available.

I haven’t seen one yet, and not sure who would fit that description.

Also with this mentality comes an impact on high school recruiting because who would come here knowing you'll never start.

Agreed. It’s a delicate balance. I think Kelly recognizes that and won’t be as portal happy as fans think.

You stalking my posts?

Daniels was brought in when LSU had Brennan, Nussmeier and Howard on the roster. You don't think Kelly will want another qb when he only has Nussmeier, Collins and a true freshman who should only be a HS senior?

I meant the general you but it never comes across properly.

Brennan washed out and was losing to both JD and Nuss. Realistically we had JD, RS freshman Nuss, true freshman Howard. Year 2 we had JD, RS sophomore Nuss, true freshman Collins. I think he will want one, but can he find one willing to be a backup but also better than what we have now behind Nuss and also won't push Underwood out.

You are missing my point.

Two years ago, Kelly brought in Daniels when LSU aleady had 3 scholarship qbs on the roster. Two of whom had some experience.

Comparing this year to two years ago leads to the assumption that Kelly might bring in another qb to compete against the last of those remaining qbs and two completely untested players.

Far as I can tell, he hasn't entered the portal. Just some speculation he could be enticed to transfer as a coveted player.

Cameron Ward is going to finish his college career amongst the most passing yards in NCAA history. He throws the ball a ton. He has a year with 500+ passes
