247 Transfer portal

Even though you can't officially enter until next week, 247 is listing players that have announced their intention to enter the portal.

DT, DB and maybe a QB are likely the priorities.

Possibly a WR1 if there is one available.

I don't think LSU will load up in the portal. Possibly 6-8 players, quality over quantity.

eta: Grad transfers can officially enter and players where the coach was fired.

Joey Slackman, PENN, DT, 6-4, 300

Slackman is the top DT so far in the portal. Listed as a 4-star transfer, but from the Ivy League.

Been in the portal less than a week and already has offers from: Duke, Houston, Pitt, Illinois, Rutgers and Georgia Tech

Last time we got an Ivey League player he was literally the worst Center I’ve seen in my entire life.

Why not take a shot at Slackman. It’s hard to imagine him being any worse than what we trotted out this year.

In his defense, he had never played center before and wasn't really considered a high level player before we recruited him.

That's the fault of the staff that took him and then put him in the opposite of a position to succeed.

Hopefully his last name isn't an indicator of his work ethic, because he looks like a high motor guy. (Shitty joke i know, but cut me some slackman).

Seriously, we will probably need most of the bodies we can get so I would take him just on size and position. If my memory is correct though, may be best to find someone else because I cannot recall any Ivy league players making an impact at LSU.

Disclaimer: the only Ivy League transfers I can think of are Andrew Hatch and Liam Shanahan.

This guy played under CBK and he’s at a position of need.

There are currently 27 Ivy League players in the NFL, not including players who transferred out of the Ivy League.

Writing off an entire conference due to a few failures would seem a bit shortsighted.

This depends. We no longer have unlimited open roster spots. If Smith and Wingo head to the draft, sure. If anyone else hits the portal, ok. But if they come back, then the staff will have to be a little more targeted with who we pick up.

Another thing to keep an eye on is whether the staff takes just one or two DL from JUCO in this class. This will also play a role.

So we could go after a few or maybe just one. I’m guessing Kelly would prefer Wingo and Smith to stay and to only take one.

Edge isn’t a need the way interior guys are. We actually have some very talented young guys coming up there.

So, did 2 this year, the transfer from Texas. He was god awful. Just because he played under BK means he’s a take. Is he any good are is BK the only reason why we should take him?

Not impressed with the players we got out of the portal.
Cornerbacks and linebackers have been a bust.

Two WR that I hope the staff makes contact with in the portal is Thomas from MS State and the Vandy WR from Mandeville.
