But no NFL GM would take Burrow over a dozen other QBs like John Elway, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, Johnny Unitas, Patrick Mahomes and Bart Starr.

This could be the stupidest comment of stupid comments in the history of this board.

It's Dorsey and then Mathieu.

Mathieu was game-breaking on defense, but he was arguably just as impactful on special teams, which made him an all time player. But Dorsey was so unstoppable, that teams resorted to trying to intentionally injure him, sometimes almost weekly. No one did that to Mathieu.

Revisionists that want the present to be the past not knowing that Brady went in thr 6th round and Patrick Mahommes at 15? Chiefs traded up in front of the Texans ended up with Mr massage parlor.

The answer is Mathieu and imo it really isn’t close.

Saying Mathieu and it isnt even close shows you never saw Michael Brooks play. I saw both and Mathieu was a great player and may be most dominating but i would vote for Brooks and it would be close.

He tore up his left knee his senior year and lost some of his explosive speed but even after that Michael Strahan who played with Lawrence Taylor said Brooks was the most fearsome player he ever played with.

Most of you young guys never saw Casanova play. He was unbelievable. Later years was Mathieu. Best two defensive players ever at LSU. IMHO of course.

LSU has a long list of great defensive players.

That said, any answer other than the Honey Badger (Tyrann Mathieu in 2011) is incorrect. He was insane that year, never saw anything like it.

he had a good season, I'll take Casanova, All-American three years in a row, probably would have been four but freshmen couldn't play varsity back then

I did. Brooks was a great linebacker.

Mathieu transcended position. There are great plays, signature plays that are career highlights for great players. He made 1-2 a game that year.
And let's be honest, he's a little guy who wasn't particularly fast. He should not have been able to have that impact, but somehow, he did.

Happy Thanksgiving

Different focus between the two. There's probably a couple dozen players who had better overall careers at LSU than Mathieu. But he has the single best season.

And we're neglecting guys like Ramsey Dardar and Leonard Marshall, who quietly shut down offenses.

Brooks. Could just take over a game

I remember him grabbing, picking up an opposing Offensive Tackle and tossing him aside, then grabbing the QB.
Players didn't get the exposure back then as they do today.
Anyone who didn't name Brooks, probably didn't see him play.
