Diesel mechanic help with lawnmower sounding like it’s starving for fuel when in a bind.

Will change fuel filter and hydraulic filter this afternoon to see if that works but stumped on what else to do. It’s hydrostatic so could it also be hydraulic issue when turning blades on and trying to turn? It’s a reel mower and when I try to turn its sounding like it’s dying down. When I put blades on and try to go forward it dies down. Not sure if it’s fuel or hydraulic. Yanmar engine. TIA

Sounds like a breathing issue. Clean/change air filter.

You probably have a primary and secondary fuel filter. Change both.
As someone mentioned before check air filter.

That's definitely a fuel issue. Does it have a lift pump for the injector pump? It could be going bad.

Those conditions on my 455 have lead to the fuel filter before. Can you pull the back to tank line off the filter assembly and cycle the key and verify a good stream of diesel? The reason to check that is that crud collecting in the tank can block the inlet screen on the fuel pump, you should have a decent amount of flow when the key is cycled. G/L

Think he said it was a reel mower probably a 2653 or something similar. I had one do that and it was the fuel supply line from the tank to the pump and gotten pinched and couldn’t supply enough fuel under a load.
If it is a 2653 there is also a filter on the fuel pickup inside of the tank.

It’s a 2653a John Deere. I am thinking it’s possibly trash because with the throttle fully open, it runs like it’s half open. No sputtering or anything just sounds like it’s in a bind when I try to go foward wide open or put reels down and on trying to mow. It’s like a load makes it lose power.

It's a fuel supply issue. Change fuel filters first.

Just replace the carb while you’re at it. It’s fairly cheap and easy

Not going to dig way into this but with a diesel, it's either lack of air, lack of fuel, or lack of throttle. If it's lack of air, it will black smoke it's arse off. If it's lack of fuel, it has no power. Yours isn't getting fuel.

If there as anything I wanted to know from this man, it would be tractor repair and farming knowledge.
Second but runs up on first is to ride with him n his combine when he is taking wildlife picture with his drone.
The man is talented and i love his post.
