This "slippery slope" argument is the only one that is valid. Any low T loser arguing in favor of driving over 100 mph can kick rocks. There's a difference between fighting for your right to do stupid shite and actually trying to justify doing stupid shite. I only respect one of those.

For cars to operate efficiently at lower speeds the top speed must exceed a 120 miles

How is this not political?
The NTSB is “part” of the federal government.
Gotta love how our lives are affected by unelected bureaucrats.

Then you’re a lily white limp wristed wannabe nanny.

Mechanically, yes. I imagine this would involve a computer solution, not a weakening of the engine itself.

I’d rather they require proof of insurance to start

So you're not arguing for your right to drive >100 mph? You arguing that you should drive >100 mph? Because that's the distinction I'm making, just so I understand your definition of limp wristed.

The fact that you got 9 upvotes just shows how far we've fallen as a country

I’m not understanding…. It’s only a mechanical problem… if you make 100 the max speed that means you would wear out any engine or transmission just driving on the interstate daily… the transmission especially needs to be able to climb to speed and maintain speed smoothly… you can’t do this if top speed a 100

I'm by no means a car guy, so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt: modern cars are essentially run by computers. Cruise control, etc, etc, all computerized. I have to think it wouldn't be terribly difficult to add a bit of code that says "if acceleration will exceed 100mph, stop accelerated, no matter what inputs". Hell, my car does it now in a way, with adaptive cruise control. I set a max speed (limit), and the car reacts to stimuli (or lack thereof) within that limit. Even if the road is wide open, it won't accelerate past that limit.

The better question you should be asking is why we have speed limits that haven't changed in decades.
If you keep the speed limit artificially low, suddenly everyone is speeding. $$$$$

It’s not my definition. It belongs to the guy who called me that.

Absolutely agree, but most people can't drive for shite, so making them drive faster to "keep up" would probably be disastrous.

We would be better off not financing every loser with a pulse with our fiat funny money.

If they can limit you to 100mph then they can limit you to 55mph. Hell no! frick em!

Should new cars be prevented from exceeding 100mph?
I have a computer genius that will change ours to unlimited.

Should come standard in all dodge chargers

That's the sweet spot for MPG.

What about motorcycles? I have two that'll do 100 in first gear.
Posted on 11/18/23 at 4:58 pm to dcw7g
FMCSA is already advancing legislation to govern speeds in semis, so if you think they'll stop there you're crazy. Eventually they're going to want them in cars, too.
