I mean it’s a perfect place to stash some cash in that corner.

With a very few exceptions, I would never put the words "genius" and "architect" in the same sentence.

That said, surely the future owners, contractor, and/or cabinet maker could have caught this before it reached this point.

I spent the last ten years in a house designed by a builder. shite like this was standard. This is what happens when you don't have an architect.

Damn laundry room is useless. I looked at a house in Spring and the laundry room was only big enough for a clothes basket and washer and dryer. We passed on it but it sold in 2 days.

Some of the designs and functionality of homes blows my mind. When we designed our house in Baton Rouge we made sure to have plenty of room in certain areas like the laundry room, garage, back porch, all walk in closets, walk in pantry etc.

My laundry room flows from my master closet, to master bath and master bedroom.

Or when the homeowner insists that they want a wall to wall countertop with cabinets in a tiny laundry room

3/2 lennar hell. The defaults of 2008 are going to pale in comparison to the shitstorm of inflation and scarcity coming.

That didn't have anything to do with an architect and had everything to do with it being cheaper to stick two pre-made base cab together than get a custom cabinet made.

eta, being amazed and outraged about home construction and design is very in vogue with the yuppies of today. I blame HGTV.

That cabinet set looks like an entrance to a speakeasy bar

Design build usually means designed and built by the GC, which is why this outcome has arisen.
