I miss the used CD store that was between Chili's and the Hampton Inn off College.

Sears, Wilson’s then Service Merchandise, Mervyn’s.
Howard Brothers, Radio Shack
Spencer’s.
Walmart and then the internet killed off most of these.

I quickly scanned the comments in this thread and I saw one mention of K&B... I grew up going to K&B as did my family. I thought that place sucked. Mainly because of the employees. The application for that place must have had a check box 1) you must be an a-hole.
It took forever to check out because the cashier was slow as molasses and just didn't care. The one we would go to the most was at Napoleon and St Charles. That place was just jammed with merchandise and the aisles were really narrow. Two people couldn't pass w/o stepping aside.
It got to the point where my mom stopped going there for prescriptions and went to the drug store across the street (catty corner). That place was McCune's (SP). But the pharmacist at that place would make passes at my mom. We got a kick out of that but it would piss her off..

K&B
My grandfather drank Lord Calvert whiskey and bought it from K&B by the case. They had the best prices on it. Good times going with him to the one in Brownsville/Baker to pick up a case every 2 weeks. He worked hard but played harder.

Gibson’s
Sears was a popular place to build a credit history. They gave credit to college students and other folks with low or no income. Sears would give you about $200 in credit and the interest was a small price to pay to make about 6 payments and get a good credit history.

There was a Shakey's in Auburn AL, but it closed a few years ago.
There’s still a Shakey’s by LAX. It reminded me of South Park and I almost stopped. Instead I spent $52 on a burger and beer at Barney’s in the airport.

Babbages
They had the weakest return policy ever for PC games. I’d buy one, beat it in 48 hours, then return it saying there was a virus on the disk. I probably did this to over 50 games.
My parents were garbage for letting me do this and I probably led Sierra games to the brink of bankruptcy

My wife’s grandfather did the civil and iron work for the a lot of the Howard brothers and original Walmart way back when. The one on O’Neal north of I12 was one of his.
