I remember our Wilson's turning into Service Merchandise. Was it a rebranding or a takeover?

I actually looked them up awhile back out of boredom. There are only two in the world. One is in Houma, one is in Laurel, MS. Corporate office is in TX in a UHaul rental place.

Corn Dog 7 had the best corn dogs ever. Battered and deep fried right in front of you. I feel like that may not be saying a lot. Lots of mall nostalgia tied up in it too. Singing River Mall in Gautier MS to be specific. I need to find it in Laurel next time I'm through there.

Don't forget about the lemonade either.

Ramer’s Grocery store off of Jefferson was the goat mom and pop grocery store. Also had the best BBQ beef sandwiches of all time.

Apparently there is one Pasquale's pizza in this region, in Greenville Ms. I hope to go there to pay homage someday.

There was a Shakey's in Auburn AL, but it closed a few years ago.

I miss Cinnamonster that they had in Mall of LA. Way better than Cinnabons. I also miss the old Morrison's in Hammond Square.

Surprised with no Chess King mentions, considering the gayness level of this board.

Are we talking Bel Air Mall Chess King?

Radio Shack for sure. If I could go back in time and somehow save it I would.

Service Merchandise

Circa 98-01, post CD and pre-e file music format, I got into the minidisc format. Service Merchandise Was one of the few stores that carried them, and at the time I was working all over SeLa, so I knew where every SM was in the whole area and would swing by to check it out.

The first Wilson's store was on the south side of Florida Blvd. Then a couple of years later the built the new store on the north side of Florida and a little farther to the west.
I use to ride my bike to the old store to buy fishing baits when I was a kid.

Is Pier One store still in business? They had really cheap stuff when it first opened, then got expensive in later years.

Though they are no longer licensed, I believe there are still western auto stores in Bunkie and Cottonport, LA as well as Amory, MS.

The Real Superstore was magical with their free fresh cookies.

I remember liking Service Merchandise. They had a lot of cool stuff.

K&B, Howard’s, TG&Y, Wilson’s/Service Merchandise, New Generation, Sound Warehouse, Alfalfa’s Video, Record Bar, Children’s Palace, Old K-Mart (before Sears buyout), DH Holmes, Montgomery Wards, Goudcheauxs, Waldenbooks, Babbages. I still probably missed a few.

I think the biggest losses are music stores in general
