As the great lyricist Lil Jon said, don’t start no shite won’t be no shite!
and im sure the people who just got their entire lives bombed to shite, who have been the recipients of years of propaganda, where probably willing to take the time to sit and think and add context and consider the big picture

These were the same German citizens who smelled burnt flesh coming from the crematoriums yet still denied they knew what was happening. Frick em. They had it coming.

I’ve read different accounts from 8th and 9th Air Force men that if you had to bail out over Germany, you hoped a soldier found you first before a civilian did. There are plenty of stories of Allied airmen being killed by civilian mobs. And you’re right…I’d probably do the same if I were one of them.

I asked my great-uncle about the civilian side of things. He just shrugged his shoulders and said as far as he was concerned, they were all Nazis. When you’re piloting an aircraft that is being shot at by ack-ack and fending off Messerschmitts, you’ve got enough to worry about.

So, the female Brit at Oxford was clearly a German spy, right?

Is that what we were supposed to take away from her pointed questions about his background?

You’re entirely missing the point. What he’s saying is how the Germans reacted was completely natural. Their homes and community just got bombed into oblivion. Very shortly after that they see bomber pilots walk through their streets. They don’t care if they’re American or British, who started the war, or why. They reacted in an extremely visceral, reactive, and natural way.

And FWIW, I’m not denying that German citizens by and large supported the Nazis, started the war, and reaped what they sowed. I don’t weep for what happened to them. Doesn’t mean how they reacted at that particular time wasn’t a very natural reaction - again, not right or wrong, just natural. Similar scenes fill history books from every century and every continent and every culture.

I had to look it up. In Crosby's memoir, he guesses she is some sort of intelligence officer or covert ops. She could have possibly been stationed at Bletchley Park as part of the code breakers there.

No, I mean this DOES take place in WWII, so not as of yet.

But unfortunately, last night's episode DID have a scene where a folk singer at a British bar is playing that commie Woody Guthrie's song, "Tear the Fascists Down" with lyrics like these:

"That's the union that'll tear the fascists down"

"While the Russians fight on across the Don"

"So, I thank the Soviets and the mighty Chinese vets"

Like most of the commies in America, Guthrie wanted to have nothing to do with the war originally, regardless of what was being whispered about the Jews in Nazi Germany. It wasn't until their idols in Soviet Russia were double crossed and attacked that the war became a cause celebre' for the fellow travelers, who of course instead of couching it in terms of nations vs. nations framed it as socialists/communists/unions defeating fascists. They're the same type of people who today try and downplay the American role in the war and say that it was the Soviet Union that was REALLY the deciding factor...(smh)

I'm sure some left-wing Hollywood type made sure to slip that song in there, which kid of sucked.

Pointing out the fact 75-80% of the Wehrmacht was on the Eastern Front, getting destroyed by the communists, makes one a communist?

Without the 100s of thousands of trucks and support vehicles we supplied them (not to mention the tanks, fighter planes, artillery, etc), the Red Army would still be huddled outside Moscow. Their logistical system was horrendous as is. Without the trucks, they would have starved and run out of fuel. If they were forced to build their own, how many T34s/Sturmoviks/Stalin's organs don't get made?

The "the Soviets won the war" crowd never factor in how dependent they were on the US and UK.

That's because it was a commie party that Crosby and the British chick snuck into. The posters on the wall were a dead giveaway.

Pretty solid episode 6. I'm really starting to like this series. More so than I thought I would after the first episode

This is where I’m at. It was a rocky start to me but it’s settled in nicely and I look forward to it each week

Me too. Although, I’m pretty bummed that it’ll only be 9 episodes. They couldn’t have squeezed out 1 more to make 10!

What happened to the airman that was on the run with the resistance in Belgium? Did I miss something? Feels like that storyline disappeared.

You obviously don't know that I have pointed out the same things in other threads over the years here.

However, building a bunch of stuff isn't quite the same as losing millions of citizens and soldiers. Losses our people never would have accepted.

Yes, our manufacturing guaranteed Germany would lose. The Soviets did far more of the heavy lifting when it came to actual battle. ie-Killing Germans while getting lot of their own killed as well.

Just a narrative trick. They will come back to him once you’ve forgotten about him. Same thing they did with Buck. Writers have been using this method for centuries. You’ll see him again!

Yeah it sucks we didn't get an episode showing their training like we did with Band of Brothers. The 100th BG was quite the shitshow before they were allowed to deploy according to Crosby's book.
