Inflation sticker shock/windshield wiper blade prices

Just replaced windshield wipers, and price has doubled since I last bought them. With food, and even big ticket items like cars, I guess I was exposed to the steady increase in prices over the years. It makes sense how a random inexpensive item you only buy every few years is the thing that shocks you the most regarding inflation (as opposed to housing/cars that you either keep up with the price or there are enough news articles about the price increase to make you aware).

$36 each for the rain x blades. Crazy.

Well that's the price of building those windshield wipers back better!

There is some sort of collusion with the chain auto part stores with the wiper blades. It has to be, because I can get the RainX blades at Costco for about $20 per pair. At O'riley and Autozone they can be north of $50.

Are you changing the whole blade? If so more than likely you just need to change the insert and doing so will save you a lot. It’s a scam they started 20+ years ago to make it difficult find just the insert, but you can get it if you look.

I remember buying just the inserts for around three bucks in the early 2000s. But now we apparently toss the entire assembly. Greeeeeeen. Yay. Am I doing this right?
And I preferred the inserts because they were usa made.

shite, I had the same reaction to renewing my driver's license online the other day. $38.75 total, including $2.50 for processing. It was like $22 when I renewed it five years ago.

I've been buying Michelin blades from Costco for several years when they're put on sale. $7 each if I recall.

It’s everything. The purchasing power of our dollars has been degraded more than anything I can remember in the last 40 years.

My favorite part of this thread is MikeBRLA telling us there is a way to save a bunch of cash,
then dosn't elaborate at all.
Good times. Thanks Mike.

This is why the news last week that GDP was higher than expected meant nothing to me…
All it meant is that stuff costed more than expected…

I brought my company vehicle in to have it serviced about a week ago. When the guy calls me to tell it was ready, he casually mentions that he had put some windshield wiper blades on as well. I didn’t think too much about it, and when paying, I noticed that charged $120 for the blades! I told him that since I hadn’t asked for blades, I wanted him to take them off. He immediately went down to $35 for the set!

I paid 75 dollars for blades a few weeks ago at autozone. At most it was 25 dollars per blade pre covid

That's what I have been buying. Not the RainX. Thanks for the correction.

This. I usually order a 6 pack of wiper blades for my Tundra when I'm buying some other parts. I buy the $3 blades. Rain X is too spendy at $11 each.

Look you ungrateful shite, it took a good deal of time for the child labor in a foreign country to make those.
Then once they were shipped here, sat on a container off the coast of California for a month because of the BS port regulations
Finally, the import tax on that was also not cheap
