I sent my kids to an expensive private school for elementary and middle school. There were tons of families there with the grandparents paying for their grandkids tuition. I was always jealous. My FIL had a good laugh when I'd drop hints.

Parents bought first car. ‘94 explorer in ‘03 for $2500. Also ~$10k in student loans so I didn’t have to work senior year. Paid them back for the loan. No kids so don’t have to worry about that currently.

Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze
Actually, my dad died when I was about 41. My brothers and I split his $6,000 estate.

Three years earlier his sisters passed leaving us $240k which we split three ways.

Mom died about 10 years later and I guess we got $100,000, maybe $150,000, but by then that was noise, and we probably gave it away.

My wife’s mom died, but one of her siblings was needful, and we all let it pass to him.

I have never received any kind of inheritance. My folks are lovely, kind, benevolent, salt of the earth people, and I owe a whole lot to them, but we ain't rich. And that's ok.

Only child here. Mom died when was very young and Dad never remarried. We never discussed finances so I had no idea what he had saved up/invested when he passed a couple years ago. I ended up with about 700K so my daughter will be well taken care of when she tires of teaching today's youth.

My mom paid off one of my vehicles. My brother needed money for his masters so he asked my mom for a loan. She said she would just give it to him instead. She called me and asker what I owed on my car, I told her and she said I'll pay it off, I'd hate to give something to your brother and not you.

I prefer not to discuss what we may or may not have received from family members on a public forum. Current plans are to divide what remains of our estate at the end of life evenly between our nieces and nephews (no direct descendants.)

My dad passed two months ago. My parents were renters,(they owned at one point but had some bad luck with an ARM in the 80s and then a job transfer in 08, and only rented after that) They were never able to help us financially with college or cars, but tried here and there where they could. (7K towards a wedding, took the whole family out to Christmas Eve Dinner each year and always paid their share on family vacations). They were also generous grandparents.

They only had about 10K in savings but he also had a life insurance policy when he died.

Any who, my mom came over the other day after submitting his death certificate to the life insurance policy and it paid out 500,000. She didn't know how to read the number in her bank account because she wasn't used to this many zeros, so she had to bring me the receipt to read it to her. Talk about a bittersweet moment.

He worked until the day he died and never called in a day in his life. Maybe we will get some of that, but he raised 5 successful kids and was always present, so I am forever grateful for that.

My children have all gotten a great education and good start in life.

My goal nkw is to have enough money for them to take care of us when the time comes. . If there’s money left they can have it BUT I’m not intentionally working to leave them any. I’m hoping there is some left but their inheritance is us providing for ourselves so they don’t feel that they have to.

Got my college paid for by my parents. That was good enough for me. Putting money away now for my son’s education.

School pensions in Louisana pass down to children?

She was a teacher in Louisiana for 30+ years and put money in the “drop” program.

I’m not sure what we got but assume it was what she had put in, I think we both got 70k or so from it.

My parents paid for a used car, the insurance until after college, and my cell phone and phone bill until after college.

That was it.

But they also busted their arse to send 5 kids to private school when they had hardly any money. So I think I still came out ahead.

Do you plan on giving same to your kids? I’m surprised at how many parents buy their kid their first car, house, school, etc. not sure if that will Be returned to the next generation.

Honestly I'm not sure why you received so many downvotes asking this.

I didnt grow up with money.
My parents had it better than my grandparents. My grandparents had it better than my great grandparents. I was raised that it is expected for me to continue generational growth so my kids, my grandkids etc. would have more financial stability and opportunities than I was handed down.

I have worked hard and will continue this and have also taught my kid values and that it is expected for them to continue handing down the American dream.
Some hate people with success and wealth. They dont understand the structure, culture, work and that it sometimes takes generations to build that.
If parents or grandparents didn't start building something better people should not hate those that have. It has to start with someone. One needs to look within themselves and decide if they will be the start of the solution or continue their own problems.

Life is full of so many pitfalls that can destroy it all. Divorce, drugs/alcohol, and even government can destroy all of it.
My kids will inherit money, land and cattle and yes it still scares the hell out of me that they will be able to continue the course opening more doors/opportunities for my future grandchildren.
Prayer, self respect, hard work and having values are a good place to start.

Nope. I was left with liens, mountains of debt, and legal headaches. Me and my wife were criticized relentlessly by my parents for being the losers in the family. Interestingly, my parents died broke, my sister died at 52 without a pot to piss in, and my stepbrothers ended up in prison for fraud.

I inherited $56.00.
More than I wanted after all they did for me. Great parenting is priceless and the best inheritance.

My father died the way he lived: pennyless. My mother is getting up there into her mid 70s and visited recently. She laid out her will and assets and told us she'll be leaving a little over a million dollars. She never made great money and we grew up lower middle class, but she apparently saved every penny and invested well. I tood her to enjoy it instead of passing it down.
