Oh, excellent choice.

The Buffalo that was on the Buffalo Nickel was sold at slaughter and chopped up for food.

As someone who grew up with a pet buffalo, it's always cool to see stories like this. My dad always had an affinity for the old West growing up, and I guess our buffalo was just the cherry on the top lol
stories about your pet Buffalo? What was its name? Was it a good cuddler?

The hunters deeply impacted the lives of Native American Tribes who hunted them to feed their families, make warm clothing, build their teepees, utilize the tendons for bowstrings, etc. I can understand why they were so pissed off at the white man.
I'm sure many iterations of primitive people were angry at their displacement by superior people.
Look at the angst on these boards over The Great Replacement Theory. And that involves voluntary displacement through attenuated breeding.

I've had a few opportunities to sit and photography bison out in Grand Teton NP. It's amazing how agile and fast these animals are especially given their size. I was sitting alone one morning watching a heard of about 300-400, and saw one next to a fence about 4 feet high, and from a standstill it easily jumped over the fence.
I'll never understand why people think they can just walk up to a bison and pet it with no consequences.
A few photos I've taken of Bison:

Empire of the Summer Moon is the best read out there on the Native American culture and its demise in the 1800s, focusing on the Comanches and the life of Quanah Parker and his mother who was an assimilated Comanche captive. The author has been on JRE and that’s also a great listen. Excellent companion piece for a deep dive to this miniseries.
Google mapping/Earthing some of these areas, especially the Quanah Parker Star House, is fascinating also.

On a personal note they mention buffalo bill in series, my G grandpa saw Buffalo bill at an show in buffalo ny, i remember seeing the notice as a boy and asking him about it. Ya csb
Buffalo Bill visited the house my wife grew up in. It was a great great something or other who lived there at the time and knew him. There was an account of the visit in the local newspaper.
We did a ranch vacation in northern Colorado once. On one of the rides, we went to a neighboring ranch where they had about 800 buffalo. It was pretty cool to see them grazing down in the valley.
It was also pretty cool when the wrangler's horse backed into the electric fence designed to keep the buffalo from wandering. The wrangler was opening a gate and the horse backed up a bit too far.
Never knew a horse could squeal and jump like that. MJ would have been proud.

I don't know if you watched the show and saw the part about Teddy Roosevelt when they were talking about how he and other hunters in the late 1800's thought white men were becoming soft and hunting was a way to prove you're manly. But the woman made some comment about how he wanted to prove white supremacy and masculinity(I'm paraphrasing). Made it sound like it had nothing to do with what we did to the Indians.
The part I saw was about how the US government rounded up Indian tribes, both Allie’s and foes alike, and live them off buffalo grazing lands and onto controlled reservations.

His name was Cochise. He was pretty cool overall. Usually docile unless one of our horses was in heat. Poor fella tried but wasn't quite tall enough.
One day my parents were feeding him apples from one of our trees. Our dog spooked him and he threw his head up. Gored my mom across her thigh. 62 staples to close it up. He went to the meat market shortly thereafter
