Every poboy that I have had at R&O's is excellent and the italian salad is the perfect appetizer

I’ve never once had a roast beef poboy. Just seems sloppy and gross. Poboy bread needs mayo…and mayo with beef gravy is just an abomination.

Thread title asks for best poboy.

I see somebody never grew up as a poor black child

that's why my favorite poboy is the original poboy.

potato with roast beef gravy, lots of mayo, pickles with lettuce and tomatoes.

Richard Collin, former food critic for the States-Item, using the pseudonym The Underground Gourmet, used to refer to certain iterations of New Orleans dishes as “a platonic experience.” By not indulging in the art form known as the roast beef poboy, you are depriving yourself of knowing that sublimity.

This but I'm a big fan of the shrimp salad at R&O's.

It is indeed a sad situation. Especially considering he has Pirate's Cove pretty close to his house which has a superior roast beef po-boy and still my preference over any Nola metro joints.

i am a fastidious eater. im not fan of getting my hands dirty, wet, or sticky during eating. But sometimes you just gotta do it do enjoy some of the best dishes. A proper roast beef po boy belongs in that category.

R&O's in Bucktown
Parasol uptown

And a little venture to "da' Parish" to Rocky & Carlos will allow you to get their excellent version of roast beef or shrimp, oyster or like me, go with the "Half & Half Oyster/Shrimp" dressed.

I go to Pirates Cove…it’s amazing…I just other things.

I was talking about warm roast beef covered in gravy…I’d do a cold cut or deli style one.

I like to get gravy on the side if available and just dip the poboy like a French dip. I'm not crazy about them falling apart. Really depends on the quality of the poboy itself.

Friend,

Poorboy bread does not need mayonnaise. I have eaten thousands and thousands of poorboys in my life and never, not even once, has one of mine had mayonnaise on it.

A good roast beef poorboy is one of the best sandwiches thus far invented by humanity. It sits in the sandwich pantheon with muffulettas, Italian beef, meatball subs, Philly cheesesteaks, and a NYBMT. As the traveling diner Southshore Cyclist has cited the inestimably great food critic, Richard Collin, it is a Platonic dish. It deserves to be bathed in its own savory juices, which soften the bread that intimidates you.

Each different type of poorboy, including roast beef, ham, hot sausage, shrimp, oyster, trout, and fried potato poorboy deserves its own top ten list, not just a generic “best poorboys” list.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I’ve bought it for my son…that was on our corridor up to the Sportsplex. I’m not a flour (or corn starch thickened) gravy fan under any circumstance.
