Retired the first time at 67.5 years. Got called to come back three different times over the next couple of years but refused.
Got asked to assist another company that had lost their Engineer and with him went all access to their engineering database. Enjoyed the people and the challenges and stayed for seven years until leaving at age 77.
Shifted over to assisting my family members in our business but only lasted full time for about a year or so due to back problems.
At 86, I continue to do computer design work for them at home but I am getting tired of being under pressure so I may just have to tell them that they need to find someone else.
Definitely saying the heck with it today as it is my wife's and my 59th wedding anniversary today.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcool.gif)

I’m 46. Will have some serious thinking to do when I’m 50.
55 will definitely work, but man I’d love to be playing golf are just screwing off every day.

I retired at 46 years of age from the military. I don't have to work now, but I do work full time as a professor because I love it. Having summers off is pretty sweet too. I'll continue this gig until it's not fun anymore.

Have 30 years in my profession and am 55. Had not thought much about retirement. My job is pretty easy and I can do well financially without killing myself. Most days I work 7:30am to 4pm and almost never work nights or weekends. But a number of my age contemporaries are now retiring, and I get tired of people not leaving me alone at work. I still plan to work to 65-67, but I may start looking for my "off ramp" job.

I worked for about 20 years. I was active duty for 10 years, contracted in Afghanistan for a couple years, then built and sold a company.

Retired from government at 52 with 30 years. Working part time at consulting firm now. Making as much as I did full time. Working retirement is about as much as I can hope for until home is paid off or we move overseas. If home gets paid off and I live in us I’ll probably still work part time but at something more “fun”.

This, to me, is key.. Work becuase you WANT to, not becuase you HAVE to… im in my 40s, but if i find myself in my 50s/60s and HAVING to work- then i will realize that i failed somewhere along the way…..

I also admire/envy those in this thread who’ve said they love what they do.. i searched high and low, but never really found fulfilling work that i love.. i have had roles in my career where i liked it most days, or at least didnt hate it.. so i guess i got that goin’ for me .

I’m 24 years into my career with all being the Houston Corporate rat race. Hoping for another 5-10 years and then try to transition into working for myself (CPA) in a consulting role. This plan is better than realizing I may have another 20 years in Corporate world to sludge through.
