I usually have at least disced at least once and plant the second week of October. With this drought, I don’t know when I’ll actually plant

We disced last weekend around Natchez. Going back up first weekend in October to purchase seed and fertilizer. Hoping to be able to plant mid October if rain is in the forecast.

My son has the plots at home clipped and disked. I’m going to Woodville on Tuesday to disk those . I’ll bring a dust mask. I’ll plant at home whenever some good rainy days are predicted. We will probably plant woodville on the 19th-20th.

I’m going to try and disk mine this weekend maybe.
Save until the last month and a half our summer has been pretty rainy. Last 6 weeks have had no rain though.

We are targeting the weekend of the 14 to plant as normal but if we don’t get more moisture we will delay. Of course that’s with a no till drill which requires a little less moisture but will still delay if we don’t get a little more rain

I clipped the other day in woodville and my orange tractor was beige when I was done.

We chopped ours two weeks ago plots look like a desert and even with the lil bit of rain we did get there is no spots that held water or any sign of moisture present. Went and filled feeders today and based on how fast they are going through the corn right now I’m sure our corn dealer will be buying a brand new king ranch with plated truck nuts by the end of the year.
Still haven’t seen a acorn on the ground or onna tree

no one says "plowed" anymore? genuine question, took a second for me to process "disced"

Same I’ve usually at least chopped once by now. Seriously contemplating just feeding corn this year. Even my sloughs are dry this year.

Just south of Natchez. Hit plots with second dose of Round Up. Great time to kill weeds. Hoping to plant Mid October.

Plowed is when using a plow to turn the soil over and discing is when using a disc to break the surface

Yeah, we haven't plowed ours in over a decade. To be honest, it probably wouldn't hurt to do that now to turn the soil over.
Lately it seems we have just tilled it. Last year I disced and then tilled. I think I'm just going to disc twice this year and just plant.

October is the driest month in Louisiana. At this rate I’ll be planting during primitive weekend.
Back 7-10 years ago it didn’t rain from Sept 25- October 25. We saw rain in the forecast and we planted bone dry fields before the rain. Ended up with a monsoon 8-10 inches with a stalled front. Everything washed away.

This happened to one of my fields last season.

Nothn can do about weather. Last yr was the same here in south ms. I didnt get to plant til 2nd week od novenber bc of no rain. Plots were fine, rifle season isnt til thankgiving week, and deer in the south not that concerned with all the grass til january. Plenty of green stuff to eat around here. Keep those yellow acorns out, your fine

Be sure and check your air filters on your equipment as dusty as it is. Everything we ran this weekend was choking on the dust. Bushogged the couple of plots that needed in, got fertilizer out, and Cuz plans to disc over the next week. Really doesn’t seem like there’s any point in planting right now.
