not an abbreviation for alternative rock
(my bad if incorrect)

Ok i guess that is confusing. Should be alt rock, alt-rock, or alt or rock.

Also, J. Mascis has a side band w/ a new album out: qualifies as alt and rock

Teen Spirit is hard to beat, but my personal favorite

Urge Overkill - Sister Havana

Ha, didn’t even see the post before me. Great minds and all.

Went and picked up my bass and actually remembered most of the song after not playing it in a long long time.

I got a Moody Blues vibe from that.

I’ll accept
(Was actually listening to NIN when I saw this)

There was quite a few I wanted to add from 1989.

Even though it’s not the first song on the album Seether from Veruca Salt should be on any 90’s alt rock list off of the American Thighs album. Later they had a song called Straight that was good off of the 8 Arms to Hold You album.

L7’s Pretend That We Are Dead and Shitlist should be mentioned too even though they are the 3rd and 10th song on Bricks Are Heavy. Hard to have a 90’s alt rock list without them.

Another alt rock song that isn’t the first song and is kind of off the wall that I jammed a lot to was The Rentals Friends Of P.

Not sure if you would consider the Offspring an alt rock band but damn it’s hard not to put Smash on any 90’s music list. That whole album was fantastic and I wore out that cd when it came out.
