Did you screen for Down syndrome?

Wife and I are expecting our first kid. Was wondering did you take the NIPP or other test for Down Syndrome. Not sure should I screen for this. We are both age 33

Yes! Absolutely. And when my dr called and told me vile of blood broke and the test couldn’t be done I insisted they did a 4-D ultrasound.

But I once had a long term girlfriend who’s son had Down Syndrome. He was an absolute joy.
I was fortunate enough to introduce him to riding the tube behind the boat, catching fish etc. Too many memories to count.
Those children are more like “ normal “ children than different.
They are very easy to love and will return it exponentially. I miss him.

Yes, for all 3. I wouldn't say I would have went forth with abortion, but we did want to know. We did all testing, paid extra, and did home births. All 3 are healthy and well.

Dr asked us if we would terminate the pregnancy if the test had bad results. We said no he said there was no point in getting the test done. We were in our 30’s as well.

Hell no. Like testing for COVID, if it's not going to change anything (ie, you're not going to abort the child,) what is the point?
You don't really need to prepare. Like all other babies, they need to eat, shite, sleep, hear your voice, feel your touch, etc.

We tested for both of our kids.
The point for us was never to know so that we could abort but so that we could prepare in the event he/she was. Giving birth is an amazing event. I have no doubts that if one of my children did have a disability that I would love them just as much as if they didn't. Still, that initial shock and realization during that special of an event wasn't something that we wanted to be surprised with.

Wouldn’t have changed anything for us anyway, the test is far from conclusive, all it would’ve done is add stress.

I would not have done the amniocentesis if any of the results would’ve shown we had a chance for Down syndrome

If you plan on abortingthe baby if it has it? Yes
If you will keep the baby no matter what, it’s not even at test that is 100% accurate that may cause unnecessary worrying. The test has a 20% rate of false positives.

Yes, but I was over 35 so the NIPT was covered. Mostly, it was cool to find out the sex at 11-12 weeks.

Yes, it was something we wanted to be prepared for. Not to terminate the pregnancy or anything like that but we definitely wanted to be prepared.
