It’s called sleep apnea. You’re describing how I woke up every day from early teens to about 6 years ago when I got a sleep study. Now I sleep great and wake up feeling good.

Get a sleep study. They give you a little device that monitors some vitals, you take it home and hook it up to yourself for a night or two. If you have apnea, they get you a CPAP machine and it will change your life.

Going to be consistently at 9pm is a life hack and game changer.

The discipline it requires is rewarded each morning.

thought that shite was just normal. I wake up around 6:15 work days and feel like my brain doesn’t catch up until 9 something.

Yea. Nobody just wakes up fresh and normal after 5 minutes.

Carb heavy dinners. Esp if eaten after abt 5:30. I cut this out and I feel much more awake in the AM. That and consistency in the gym/running.

That’s too much if you don’t want it to influence your sleep. Alcohol is a major sleep disrupter, and it’ll just get worse as you age.

General rule of thumb if you don’t want alcohol consumption to mess with your sleep cycle… no more than 2 drinks in any one day, and absolutely no alcohol within 3 hours of going to bed. Violate either of those guidelines, and there is a very high chance it will disrupt your sleep cycle

Outside of alcohol, try and develop a routine wherein your brain associates your bed with only 2 things… sleep and sex. No Tv in bed, no phone in bed, no books in bed, no food in bed. Do all your living somewhere else, train your brain to associate your bed with only sleeping and fricking.

The alcohol and Tv changes drastically overhauled my sleep pattern. I used to toss and turn in bed, could never fall asleep, and always felt tired as shite when I woke up. Now, when I’m ready to go to bed, I’m asleep within 5 minutes, and I’m consistently at 7.5 hours of sleep a night. I consistently wake up plus/minus 5 minutes around that mark, no need for an alarm clock, no coffee craving, feeling fully refreshed and ready for the day (after immediately taking my dog for a walk… that’s activity number 1 each and every day). It drastically changed my productivity and happiness (although it did take a couple months to fully train that behavior)

Note: all of this assumes you are healthy without some underlying health condition, so it should not be taken as medical advice… just what I’ve personally found to work for me

As strange as it sounds, you may be OVERSLEEPING. I also woke up this morning feeling groggy/sluggish and I know in my case I slept too long by an hour or two.

Might get a sleep study and see if you have sleep apnea

It’s a common misconception, but you don’t have to be fat to have sleep apnea

Have something you’re look forward to/ excited about first thing in the morning.

You’ll pop right up and get going.

the last month and a half I’ve drank more than I ever have in my life on a consistent basis, but still no more than 6 beers a night, usually just 3 or 4. And not every night just 3 or 4 nights a week. I’m sure with college football starting I’ll drink more on the weekends though. Is this too much?

Yeah I would def try cutting back on the booze. Drinking everyday is absolutely horrible for your health. When I drink even if it’s just a beer or two I sleep like absolute shite. Never used to be like that but once I turned 33 I noticed it.
