BKs stubbornness on Harold Perkins.

I don’t understand it. A coach’s responsibility is to get the best out of their player….Not try and fit them into a mold of what they “think” they should be.
Harold Perkins is arguably the most disruptive player we’ve seen since TM7. Say what you want but Les Miles realized what TM7s strengths were and used him appropriately. Imagine if he had tried fitting him into the traditional CB mold.
Perk gave you the blueprint last year of how he can impact the game….why would you throw that away and try to turn him into a by-the-book ILB? Last yr there were several times per game that we’d hear Perk’s name. I found myself asking “where is Harold Perkins?!?” several times during the FSU game.

BK is deep state. I tried to ignore it but there is no other explanation.

I don’t like saying it but I’m getting late year Miles vibes.

I’m good with trying to equip Perk with a skill set that translates to the NFL.
I’m not cool with it neutering the guy.

By switching positions and taking away his ability to freestyle Perkins has disappeared

It’s almost as if he thought dropping him in coverage would make his rush more dangerous, however it should be the opposite way around.

Been saying it since last year that House is overrated. Gave up 30ppg to SEC opponents with Perkins being the disrupter he was. Now with him in the middle it could be worse.

Yeah I don't get it. Keep him in the weight room and mirror how the Cowboys use Micah Parsons.

We've seen this is over and over. A player shows that they can flat out disrupt a game rushing the passer in year one. Then the coaching staff takes the player and tries to turn them into something else. They want a more complete player capable of impacting the game in a variety of ways. I understand that line of thinking but at the same time if the player is elite at rushing the passer, why change anything?
One of the few times I can remember a coaching staff just letting the guy do what he does best is the Cowboys with Micah Parsons. So far they haven't forced him to play a more traditional LBer role. They have let him do what he does best, chase QBs. He goes for 13 Sacks a year so I guess it's working.

They were forced to run that much zone because they had such an advantage at receiver. That won’t be the case every week in fact that’s the best receiving tandem we’ll see all year.

Because by the end of the year teams had figured out how to scheme him out.

Right but with the supposed upgrades at other positions if opponents are committing resources to scheme Perk those other guys should be able to make plays. It should be a domino effect.

Talent wise the defense is only marginally better than it was last year, if that.
The theory is that changes with Maason Smith but of course he wasn’t out there.

Hopefully it will be realized and changed. I get you can’t throw everything out mid game. So now you got 2 weeks to figure it out before SEc starts.

It was 1 game... I think they will shift back to having Perkins as a dog.

Yeah, last years corners were much better.

Yea, you’re probably right but I still believe we need Perkins doing what he’s naturally inclined to do. Not everybody’s gonna have the personnel to stop him.

Stubborn? It was one game.

I just can’t understand what they’re trying to do with Perkins.
The guy was a fricking nightmare for opponents last year. He damn near won the Arkansas game by himself. He was a non-factor in this game.
Why change what was working so well?
