This is so heartbreaking. My love for country music, island music, and the beach came from Jimmy. It’s funny how someone you’ve never met can influence such a huge part of your life and mold you into the person you are. I have a devastated feeling, I feel sick. He’s doing the big Labor Day weekend show in the sky this weekend.

My wife and I went to his COVID makeup[ concert in Tampa in December 2021. Old guy was jumping around and playing like he was still 25. Took only a 15 minute break out of a two and a half hour concert. Great show.

He definitely lived life on his terms.

RIP to a music legend.

He died about a month ago
While winter filled the air
And though I cried I was so proud
To love a man so rare

The Captain and the Kid always gets me, makes me tear up thinking of my own beloved grandfather. Godspeed and thanks for the memories James William Buffet.

Jimmy Buffet received a degree in history from USM.

No one told him he wasn't talented enough to be in the band. He was "told" (presumably by a piece of paper labeled "Requirements to be in the USM Marching Band") that he'd need to major in music to be in the band. That's a very tough major, and he elected to study something else.

Not true. He went to Southern Miss, but never graduated.

An alum is someone who attended an institution, whether they graduated or not. He went to Auburn so he was an alumnus of Auburn.

He also attended, and graduated, from Southern Miss.

Good story. In Jimmy Buffet’s book “A Pirate Looks at 50” he mentions sailing into a Caribbean port somewhere years ago and seeing a huge sailboat docked in a bay. It was Dylan.

After reading that book, I told my wife that after I die that I want to be reincarnated as Jimmy Buffet. Basically, when he wasn’t touring, he woke up every morning and decided if he was going to surf or fish, where in the Caribbean/Central/South America he was going to do it and which one of his planes he was going to fly himself to get there.

Just two days ago our whole family was hanging out in the pool drinking beers with Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads on continuous loop.

The song Peanut Butter Conspiracy was written about when be lived in Hattiesburg and attended USM and he and friends would go to a mini mart on South 28th that was located across from FGH and steal food

Biloxi is one of the most underrated songs of all time

He didn't write that one, but he made it his.

For me it's In The Shelter. Very underrated song.

I saw him a few times through the years. He was a big part of my teenage years and loved his early work. Living and dying in 3/4 time is a wonderful album.
Ballad of Spder John, and west Nashville Grand Ballroom Gowns were great underrated songs on it.

The most peaceful time in my life was sitting on the beach late at night by myself at 14 years old listing to The Coast of Marseilles. I'll never forget the feeling and thank him for the experience.

That’s what I maybe loved about him the most. He knew exactly who he was and didn’t try to be anything else.
