I just don't get how teams/cities can justify that cost for a baseball stadium. Football stadiums, maybe, but there are limitations to what you can do and what events you can host with a baseball stadium
They can't in almost any instance other than "look what I did with your money" and probably leaving office before the bill comes due.

It's funny because they threaten with leaving when in most cases now i doubt the economy would really notice. especially in a situation like the royals where theyre floundering currently and probably a good ways away from being relevent again.

The royals are a bottom feeder franchise in a sport that is dying a slow death. It would be hard to imagine more than 20-30k people would care if they ceased to exist, let alone left KC.

I’m sorry there’s nothing in that rendering that screams 2bn dollars lol.

I feel the exact opposite. KC is very nice with plenty of things to do in the downtown area. One of the nicer and cleaner bigger cities in the US in my experience but still plenty going on
Never been a fan. Just nothing there. Place is like a giant small town. The sprawl is ridiculous considering how few people are there. Downtown is a laffer—very little urban living.

Im getting the vibe that youre someone that thinks anywhere outside of chicago/NY/LA/etc. is boring. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nah, I love NYC and Chicago, but LA I could handle never seeing again. I like a lot of cities. Pittsburgh, Nashville, Portland, Seattle, Boston, DC, ATL, Charlotte, Austin, Dallas, Phoenix is even ok. KC just does nothing for me. The Midwest cities are usually meh.

Football stadiums are even bigger money pits for cities.
You have to block out like 6-7 months for only football, so city cannot draw in events, because they have to bid on events beforr knowing NFL schedule.
NFL will schedule around big concerts.

It looks like a new, cleaner Kauffman. Horribly unimaginative. People have nailed it in here about how awful new stadiums are now. We went from the old school garbage cookie cutter to the new age shiny cookie cutter.

Royals want out of Raytown.

It's not just a new stadium that will be built. It's also building new restaurants, shops, hotels, offices, and condos.

MLB just had their highest year to year attendance increase in almost 20 years, a 25% jump in TV ratings for regular season, and broke the record for most subscriptions to MLB.tv streaming since that was introduced.
increasing ticket sales, merchandise sales, TV ratings, and online subscribers almost across the board is the exact opposite of "dying"
it's also consistently the 2nd most profitable league in the world (behind the NFL).

The most viewed World Series game in history was in 1978. 44MM people watched it
The least viewed in history was in 2023, 9MM people watched it.
In that time, from 1978-‘2023, the population of the United States increased massively from 220MM to 340MM.
The 5 worst rated World Series games have all happened since 2012, with 4 occurring in the last 4 seasons. Not one of the Top 5 most watched games occurred after 1982.

wrong, you have to put in ur dates for concerts year+ in advance, you dont have an NFL schedule till 6months to 8 months before.
When you have a nfl stadium, you block out 6 months, and hope you can bring in acts after u know which dates are going to be blocked.
Or hope for spring or summer concert dates,

How many tv channels were around back them? Personal computers? ISPs?
Your gotcha attempt was shite and you know it.

NFL games are on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays so it’s not like they are all over the calendar. If a big act books the venue months in advance the NFL just schedules around it, but typically these big concerts are held March-August anyways.

a game between teams in the 2 largest cities in America owns the record?
no fricking way!

there are 2,430 total MLB games in a season (not counting postseason).
ticket sales and TV ratings are increasing for those games year to year.
and you want to use only 7 (or fewer) to point out that the league is dying?
2,400 games showing growth.
7 not showing growth.
frick it! let's use the 7 games to draw our conclusions?
it outpaces the NBA in profitability ever single year. And baseball isn't nearly as big globally as basketball is.
So MLB is doing that almost exclusively in America, while the NBA is drawing in foreign money and still can't catch them.
6 of the top 10 largest professional player contracts in the entire world right now are MLB players.
MLB will never catch the NFL in money or popularity, but the money coming says it's definitely not dying by any stretch

That must be why the viewership for the Super Bowl has risen significantly during that same time that baseballs annual crescendo and most watchable event has fallen off and lost 3/4 of the eyeballs.

One game vs. 7 game series. The NFL is the undisputed king of American sports so again, whatever point you were trying to make is a complete failure. Like you.
