Yeah, it's odd (and concerning) that the defensive line recruiting has been so poor lately, especially considering how good it used to be.

It's almost as odd as Ole Miss getting recent commitments from three 4-star defensive linemen. Pete Golding has always been known as an excellent recruiter. I definitely don't want to see Ole Miss with an actual defense.

How often have we not lost two in the top 5? Going back 10 years, here is the list of seasons I found with at least 4 of the top 5 Louisiana kids going to LSU. 3 total.

2021 (On3, 247)
2019 (On3)
2016 (On3, 247)

So 70% of the time 2 or more of the top 5 go elsewhere.

Pete had a good defense at bama last season, an LSU won that game. I think House is a great DC. He gets to move folks around like he wants, going to be fun to watch this season.

I very seriously doubt that. However if they did and the Mckinley's bought into that.. Let them lie with the snakes.

If a school called me or my family to say you don't want to go to this school because their coach is in the hospital, I would tell them don't bother calling ever again.

A&M shook the system last season, promptly had a losing season…and then proceeded to lose 2/3’s of those system shaking “commitments”

Not saying this as sour grapes in the event we lose out on McKinley but I watched the Junior film of he and De'Myrion Johnson. I just wanted to see if there was a noticeable difference. Seemed to me that McKinley got pushed back off of the line more times than not. Johnson always pushed the line back. Johnson looks to be pretty good and glad we got him.

I get a lot of shite on here for pumping up some of our 3 star guys. We have 9 3 stars committed right now.

By the time the final rankings come out, 6 of those 9 will be 4 stars. Even McBride, a 4 star, has a shot at getting his 5th star.

Those 3 stars aren't last minute consolation prizes that we offered after missing out on higher ranked targets.

They are guys who the staff identified early on, and committed when they got their offer.

They weren't highly scouted by the recruiting services to begin with. Maybe the only camp they went to was one of LSU's, so they haven't gotten a ton of exposure.

They're not 3 stars based off of their talent. They're 3 stars because they committed to LSU very early on in the process so there's no drama the services can use to pump up clicks and subs.

nobody else offered him then either but I guess they just have to hold LSU to a different standard to justify him going elsewhere

This is 100% correct and not really debatable. And it’s really frustrating.

I’m not even talking about McKinley specifically because his recruitment is pretty quiet and we don’t know for sure if this is the case. But there is a particular type of Louisiana recruit that holds LSU to a different standard. Tackett Curtis comes to mind recently.

When did this occur?

I don’t recall any players having signed letters of intent.

A lot can happen between now and December, for better or for worse.

Yet, LSU endures

Let us wait and see!

LSU FB will survive!

And that rain down in Spain!

England will remain, as the rain down in Spain….

Furthermore, signing day is in December….let’s wait and see….

I remember a kid Joe McKnight(RIP), he too was a must get. LSU went on to win a NC. As for his career:

In February 2009, Bobby Burton of Rivals.com summed up his career by writing, "McKnight really hasn't lived up to the hype. He's good, but he just hasn't broken out to show he's the best back in his class".

McKinley never was an LSU lean according to his Dad which I speak to at least once a week, I was telling this board all along he was leaning out of state and LSU had some ground to make up, not offering him during camp his Jr yr hurt their chances and they have been playing catchup ever since.

Any idea why LSU didn’t offer him?
