Ready For Archery Season To Start

I’m sick of hot weather. Can’t fish, can’t play golf. Guess I’m dreaming of cool breeze in a tree.
Boys I’ve got the bug big time right now. My bow just got tuned and I get it back tomorrow. Ready to start shooting.
I’ll be working nights 6-12s thru the first month of the season, but I plan on getting out on my night off so I can make an evening hunt. I’m just ready to be in the woods. Trying to focus on the season to get my mind off of being stuck working thru what’s normally my favorite time of year.
I plan on using this season as a learning experience, not really focused on getting a kill. With the limited time I have I don’t think that’s realistic. Hopefully the winter won’t skip us and once I’m done with my work schedule I’ll have time to get in the woods with actual cold weather to play with.

I woke this guy up when I was running this morning. I'm freakin' pumped for October.

Exactly why I never make many hunts during the early part of bow season.
I suspect that will again be the case this year unless we see some drastic changed in the weather pattern in the next month and a half.
Someone asked me if I had been doing any deer scouting yet...hell no, not in this heat.

Bow is dialed in and I have been slinging arrows for the last two months, lowered my poundage down to 65lbfrom 70 after making a test draw last year in the mid thirties and really struggling to get it back.
Already have my opening morning and evening spots picked out, pretty much sitting on go and counting down at this point.

I’m READY! Been shooting every week since last season ended. I’ll shoot my broadheads about every other week too. Don’t wait too late to test your broadhead flight - I made that mistake last year. Just need to prep a few climbing trees, but I’ll wait until September (and hopefully cooler weather) for that. I’ll be in a tree opening weekend regardless of the weather though. That’s what Thermocells and breathable clothing are for. I hope everyone has a good bow season.

Spent the weekend dialing in my bow. Think I lost 10lbs in the process.

I’m about to put my target in my house because it’s too hot to shoot outside. I pulled out the rangefinder the other day and I can get a little over 10 yards down my hallway lol
I’m pumped for the season too. I can’t wait to be in Missouri in late October-early November. I hope it’s cold up there this year.

I definitely had the bug hit me as soon as the calendar rolled to August but until we get some cooler weather, I’ve tempered expectations.
Went and filled my feeders on my property Friday morning early and got the hell out of there.
My brother and I purchased 237 acres in NE MO back in May. I’m looking forward to hunting it but I haven’t had a chance to get back up there and scout around. I have an outage I’ll be running the first few weeks of September then I’ll work remotely until mid January. Plan on spending the last week of October- Thanksgiving in MO, then come home and hunt my property down here the remainder of the year.
I’ve been saying I’m going to shoot my bow the last 3 weeks but it’s just too hot. My bow hunting days in the Deep South are over. All my bow hunts will be in MO and KS from here on out. May make a hunt in Ozona if I have time. Haven’t hunted our place there in a couple seasons. My brothers and nephew have all killed big deer the last 2 seasons down there. Will play it by ear.

I like a classic october hunt, just for ole time sake. I usually pass on deer because always does with little ones. Just getting out. Getting camp bugs ironed out.

Two years ago, we finally got a little cool snap in late Sept. here in SW Louisiana.
I put on my mosquito net clothing and slowly walked to my spot in 62 F weather. I still was sweating after I climbed up the tree and changed my shirt after I cooled down some. Two hours later, I spotted a deer coming in at 25 yards away. She walked behind some bushes and I got ready for her to step out. Minutes went by and I saw no movement. Then finally I spotted her at 40 yards and walking away from me.
I thought I had done everything to not get busted....

I hear ya EF. If we get a little cool spell in October I’ll make a couple sits on my place in Louisiana.
Funny thing is, when I was heavy into bow hunting, I always seemed to kill a very good buck that second or third week of October when a little 2 day cold snap would come in. Lows high 40s and highs mid 60s. I’d have to go back and check but there was a stretch of seasons where I got a mature buck archery in October and the week of muzzleloader.
Every season I take that first week of muzzleloader off and out of the last 6 seasons, I’ve killed a nice mature buck 4 out of the 6.
This season I’ll miss LA primitive weapon. I’ll be hunting our place in NE MO the last week of October to Thanksgiving.
Man, I’m fired up despite this hellish weather. God has really blessed my brothers and I along with my nephews not only in regards to hunting and fishing but life in general.
I don’t post hardly any during hunting season like I used to, so if I don’t see y’all around, I hope everyone has a safe successful hunting season. It’s not all about what you harvest. I can tell you the time spent with my brothers and nephews while hunting and fishing is priceless. Our dad raised us well, at least I think so. He’s be gone for over a decade now. I wish he would’ve gotten to see and experience hunting the properties my brothers and I have purchased over the years. We worked hard and did what we set out to do: purchase our own dirt along that MS river in NELA & MO. We were able to purchase a great deer and Turkey track in the Ozona area as well. Beyond grateful and very fortunate.

I quit bow hunting when I moved to South Texas. We will be in triple digits for at least another month and usually in the low to mid 90's for the beginning of bow season. Way too damn hot.

This year we have 6 days of bowhunting before the squirrel hunters come. But the moon position not the best

I'd rather be able to squirrel hunt those six days. The acorns don't really start dropping heavy until 2nd or 3rd week of October where I hunt.

Yes. And the moon is much better around the 15th, for those that follow this. You can catch some residual movement to the harvested ag fields, assuming they planted something good.
I have a spot where the bucks cross a dirt road to / from the ag fields. A long road. For years i have been going late Sept. in the evening and watching the road with a 20 x 60 spot scope. Take note of the bucks crossing late evening . Focus on something unique that you can drive up to, and mark that spot on Gps. Next day, mid morning go on the bedding side of the road and quietly scout for a stand spot.

Quesadilla, do you still have the same cell #?
Posted on 8/16/23 at 12:15 pm to elprez00
You aren’t the only one baw. I can’t wait. Dang cell cameras have me about ruined checking every morning and evening just seeing the deer there. Bow is dialed in and only 2.5 weeks until Kentucky bow season. Can’t wait.
Doesn’t help that I saw a really nice buck this morning about 6:45 between Cypress and The Woodlands of 99. Bastard was walking in a field. Made me do a double take.

Well my bow season has ended before it started. I tore my rotator cuff a couple of weeks ago so shoulder surgery is in my near future. Going to try to hang stands and plant food plots before having surgery. Good luck to everyone.
