re: Summer Plots 2024

I’m planting the heritage blend as well but I have a dilemma. I have a thick stand of Durana clover in all of my 8 plots. Should I clip my clover close to the ground and drill into it or should I terminate the clover then plant. I’m worried that the clover will shade out newly planted seeds and inh...

I plan on planting about 10 acres of Fall Release from Green Cover Seed on Friday. I’m in SE Claiborne Co. and will be using a Genesis 5 for the first time. I’m eager to see the results. ...

I’m in the same boat. Tore my rotator cuff in 2 places about a month ago. I’ve hung stands and plan on planting food plots in early October. Then I’m going to schedule surgery. No bow hunting for me this season. ...

Thanks. That sounds like a good option depending on how PT goes. Doc said 6 weeks to pick up a sheet of paper. Hoping for the best. ...

Well my bow season has ended before it started. I tore my rotator cuff a couple of weeks ago so shoulder surgery is in my near future. Going to try to hang stands and plant food plots before having surgery. Good luck to everyone. ...

re: Underwater green lights

I have 3 IllumiSea underwater green lights around my pier(freshwater). They had good reviews and we have been pleased with them thus far. I went with the LED lights rather than the 110Volt lights because we swim around our pier and wanted to diminish any potential electrical shock situation. I also ...
Thanks. I’ll give them a call. ...
Does anyone know if there are any agencies that rent a no-till drill in Claiborne co or surrounding counties? I checked with Wesley at Farmer’s Coop and struck out. I’m looking to go the no-till rout and wanted to rent and check out the results before purchasing one. I’m on HWY 547 a couple of mile...
I definitely need to look into getting my burn certification. I have a 3-4 acre section that was cut about 4 years ago. It’s a tangled mess. There is cover bot over time they will shade everything out and it will be barren with no food or cover. The rest, about 12-15 acres is where the larger gums a...
Most of them are 5-8” in diameter so fire isn’t going to kill them. I used Hack and squirt in February and it has worked but there are too many gums for me to handle. Aerial spray company said it’s best to spray them around September as the sap starts to make its way back to the roots. I’m hesitant...
I didn’t plan very well and am having to go with the hack and squirt method. It’s Time consuming and requires lots of manual labor. I’m looking at using an aerial spray company to come in with a helicopter to kill the remaining gums. Price isn’t terrible. ...
I hope you have a plan for keeping those sweet gums under control after you cut them. I had a logger take out some sweet gums when I thinned my pines. 6-10 shoots sprouted from each stump so now my gum problem is worse than before I had them cut. ...

Yes, Buckwheat is beneficial to building better soil. Both Jeff Sturgis and Grant Woods plant their fall plots directly into standing Buckwheat. Sturgis sprays directly after planting and uses a cultipacker to lay down the buckwheat. Woods uses a crimper after planting to terminate the buckwheat. Th...

I've also been looking at not till options. Grant Woods and Jeff Sturgis both have some good information on improving soil composition using no till methods. If you are looking for something that is no till but a little heaver than the SAYA 507, the LMC HDNT-65 or the Greenscape 750 food plotter mig...

re: Building a 5 acre lake in SWMS

I had a 4 acre pond constructed on my property in Claiborne County MS about 5 years ago. Dam is about 75-100 yards long. Paid $25,000. Started with natural Resources office. Guy came out and surveyed and flagged it for free. I was able to get my tractor in there before it rained and applied 3 tons o...

Here is a quote for an enclosed 50 x 40 Kit from Stroud's Building Supply in NC. If you spray foam, you may want to consider using OSB/plywood for the exterior and the roof. If you spray foam directly on the metal, it may void the warranty and if you need to replace metal panels, it would be very di...

Well the creation of an EFID worked in Tangi and EBR to give their teachers pay raises....
The bottom line is that the results of this election will have a huge impact on the quality of education that the students of LP will receive. EBR and Tangipahoa Parish voters passed this same tax so schools in Central and Zachary along with Ascension schools can pay teachers $5,000-$6,000 more. The...
