Cary Elwes as Westley in the Princess Bride.
So good.
I couldn't imagine anyone other than Cary Elwes playing that role.

Cavil as Superman. Dude was born to play him
I thought Tom Welling was a better cast when he was on Smallville.

Perfect sort of college-boy Italian look and he was a great actor at the time

Fun fact Dougray Scott was supposed to have the role but chose to be the bad guy in MI2 instead and it went over schedule so they brought in Hugh Jackman
I remember when they first cast Dougray, the fanbase was like "the guy from that stupid Cinderella movie? frick that."
Then when they cast Jackman, everyone was like "who?"

That wasn't the question, was it? You're simply lying if you were saying Hugh Jackman should be the Wolverine back in 99

Shelly Duvall as Olive Oyl.
The people who say Jackman as Logan would probably say Keaton as Batman. The least obvious castings ever.

quote:Very few people seem to get OP’s premise. It’s not who was perfect in a role after you saw the movie. It is: what actor was the obvious choice to play an established character from a book or other source in a new movie involving that character.
This person gets OP's premise.
Deadpool was a comic book character that was well established. When casting the movie, Ryan Reynolds was the obvious choice. He was perfect for the role before the first day of filming. He just fits the character.
Same for Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and I’d say Ian McKellan as Gandalf too.
Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the Joker, but you can’t say he was your first choice to play that character before the movie came out.
Same thing for a character like Neo. It wasn’t an established character before the movie. Keanu Reeves did an amazing job in the file, but that wasn’t “obvious” when casting the move.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I mean Sean Connery was the first choice and there's no way of knowing if he was the perfect cast for that or not.

he was certainly on the short list to play Tyrion from early on.

Robert De Niro as Jimmy "The Gent" Conway

this might not quite fit the category, since it's a bit of an obscure role, but Dean Cain played Scott Peterson in a made for tv movie called "The Perfect Husband", and that seems like a pretty obvious casting decision.
