My road not taken would have found me living in Bavaria, possibly happily married there.

I can choose any European country to live in, and hell no, I would not trade life in the US for that.

Europe is so pinched and meager. If you have a fortune it can be nice, but so can any place. I spend weeks every year in Europe and other places. Not in the shitty parts, either. I’m in Balmaha Scotland right now 400 yards from Loch Lormond. It’s quaint and all, but the food is just okay and the accommodations - the best in town - suck. I can’t wait to get home. And I live in NOLA!

If I had to choose, and all things being equal, I’d pick Croatia. Or maybe Portugal in the big English communities.

Germany is great in the summer, but those winters would get old quickly.

Czech Republic. They drink a lot, love hockey, make nice pistols, great cars, and they don't like outsiders unless you're directly connected to a Czech

I live in Germany from Louisiana so yeah I have left to live in a European Country. Some good some bad just like anywhere. The negatives of this country are:

Regulations: they regulate the shite out of everything. I understand it to a point because this Country is the land size of Montana with 82 million people, but everything is highly regulated.

Healthcare: it is a mixed bag. 2 tier system Public and Private Insurance so it is a class system. General Care is adequate or even good depending on the community, but specialty medicine is hit or miss more often miss.

Taxes: Finanzamt gets all in that arse and are worse than the IRS. We just settled a case against my wife's parents 5 years after her father died. I would not wish this on my enemies.

The Good

Old Society: there are castles, churches, museums everywhere with cool things to see and do.

Clean: for the most part very clean though I live in Bavaria so it is probably the cleanest state.

Low Crime: Self explanatory.

I don't mind living here and it is like everything you can find the good or bad anywhere you go. If I could choose another country to live in it would be Austria, specifically Salzburg. I love that place ,but then again it is practically Germany.

Why not all.
Stay 3 months and each then decide.
Montenegro, Portugal, Malta, Isle of Man, Ireland, Bulgaria, maybe country side of Italy, spain, or France.

Mallorca Spain. Already has tons of expats from United States, England, South Africa, and Australia. Portugal is another option. Monaco if you have the Net Worth to qualify for citizenship. I’d consider Ireland if they would disavow England but that will never happen. I’ve heard Scotland is easy for expats to gain citizenship but that would be far down my list. It’s a welfare state mostly.

We intend to retire to Tuscany. Been there a few times and hate going back to America afterwards… combo of great food/wine, history, architecture, landscapes, and people in Tuscany is very hard to beat ino.

I have been to most of the best countries in Europe and around the world, and no country is close to the United States in terms of how much fun, adventure, scenery, and entertainment there is here.

If you had to choose a country to live in and could not leave it (not for vacation, anything) you would be fool to choose any other country. The only exception would be if you’re some average guy who wants to live like a king in SE Asia or someplace. But if you have means, the USA is by far the best.
