Mattress advice

I know this is a common topic on here. I've looked through some old threads, but decided to get a more up to date opinion from you buttnuts.
A couple of months ago, I had lower back surgery for a bulging disc. Since then, my 15 year old Tempurpedic has become a bit too cushiony, I fear, and the pain waking up is noticeable. I know a really firm mattress won't work for me and I can't accept the idea of dumping 4-8K on a new tempurpedic.
I tried out a Stearns and Foster Estate pillowtop at a local store and have been looking over online brands like Saatva and Helix. I'm pretty much a side sleeper and so is my (no pics) wife. We both tend to toss and turn a bit.
Anyone have any advice on this? There's so many options and factors and so much of what's out there is online, it's harder to make a decision than the last time I went mattress shopping.
Thanks for any advice!

Remove the box spring/foundation so that just the mattress lays on the floor.
Much quieter during sex if you are waking up the house.

I looked awhile back. I liked the Tempurpedic hybrid.

If you have to go to the mattress

I wouldn't get a bd in a box online brand, unless you can try one and get a year return warranty minimum. Brand name mattresses are best bet. With your back condition, I would try to find a firm pillow-top type. Get a good pillow, too.

I am a big sterns and foster guy so I like the estate line. My brother has a terrible back and complains about everything. He claims the best mattress he ever slept on was the Keetsa Tea Leaf mattress at 1hotel.

I know a couple of folks that have a sleep number bed. One has had back surgery and both say it is the most comfortable bed they have ever slept in. I am still a little hesitant, but I would have to check those out.

Plank Mattress
We tried 9 different mattresses and this is the only modern one that doesn't give us back pain after some time.

I've come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no amount of reviews that can help someone purchase a mattress. There seems to be no greater range of opinions than when it comes to mattress preferences.

It’s as bad as car shopping!

Sleep on your firm husband, he’ll probably like it too.

I had back pain for 15+ years. Try sleeping on your side with your knees pulled up. A sort of fetal position. Sleeping on your back puts pressure on your discs.

I have an Mlily hybrid and love it. According to the guy we got it from it was essentially the same bells and whistles as a temperpedic but less expensive. Even has cooling top which is really nice during the summer

If you're used to Tempur-pedic, I think you'd regret going away from memory foam. Regular pillow tops feel nice in the store but just aren't the same thing at home and get old real quick.

sleep number bed.
——I agree. Amazing bc the level of firmness is adjustable.
