I used to live their hats is the 70s or 80s the ones with the horizontal stripes going around them.

It was probably a year my LL team was the pirates and we wore them.

I haven’t had a MLB team since the strike (when they cancelled the series I quit MLB) but this year I said I was picking whichever team chose a LSU guy first.

It’s a pirates life for me…

Would someone like Skenes be enough for this to be true. Even if you were to assume he was with them from opening day this year and was able to be a dominant ace pitcher; at best he would probably have them fighting for a WC spot.

I don't disagree I was just saying what my VP was saying to me. He seems to believe Skenes is going to be a savior. I am of the mindset that he will have a similar career arc of Aaron Nola where he pitches well on a losing team for his first 4-5 years before finally seeing success in the middle of his career. And thats if they continue to draft good players.

It's amazing to see how many players have had great careers at LSU and how few have gone on to have great careers in MLB.

I was surprised to hear that Frank Thomas is still the only SEC player in the MLB Hall of Fame.

I think the trend is changing and we will see more college players go on to be stars in MLB. I think the level of play at the college level has gone up and more kids are viewing college ball as the best way to hone their skills while maturing into an adult.

Thats a pretty fair assessment. Selfishly I was hoping they took Crews. I dont watch many games anymore and having an every day player to see would have been nice.

The Pirates have had so much talent pass through there. Maybe Skenes can be what Burrow was to the Bengals and change that culture. Bengals used to never spend money either.

Can confirm. I've been to 42 (counting previous parks like Olympic, Astrodome, RFK, etc.) PNC is the best and it's not especially close.

Right?

I don’t know how to explain, it’s the whole experience.

Pirates haven’t had a great track record of success in a long time. So anyone going to the game, they’re going for the love of baseball. And I’m sure the fans are mostly all diehards. Fans are great and friendly.

Staying in the city and making the walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge with all the other fans. The stadium and the river. Huge open feeling concourse on the bottom. The beer cans with the big pirate on them. Awesome stadium with the absolute best backdrop in MLB.

It’s difficult to explain, but I have it ranked solidly as #1 on my list of MLB ballparks. I can’t wait to go back this summer.

I hope Skenes becomes a Pirate legend.

My daughter and her family have been living in Pittsburgh for 10 years. I have been to a few Pirates game over the years when we visit. PNC Park is a beautiful baseball stadium.
I will definitely be going to more games now to see Paul.

Good italian food along the river near the stadium back in the day.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds also have the best soccer stadium in the country, fwiw. Very underrated sports city.

It's right by one of the rivers, we passed by it to go up the incline when we were there in September. It's a cool looking stadium and they put it in a good spot.

I haven't been to nearly that many, but it was my favorite park.

We stayed downtown and took the free subway to the games. It was great.

How cool for us Tiger fans would it be for a game 1 of the NLCS to be Phillies (Nola) vs Pirates (Skenes)?

Good, probably better company that way and he won’t call your imaginary friends here (me included) “squirrels”.
