Generations aren’t really responsible. Most of our problems are created by our government through decisions within regulatory agencies that NO ONE voted for and which act independently of the heads of those agencies appointed by the President. The people really have had no say in voting our way into the mess we are in today, assuming that our election results even legitimately reflect the votes of people in the first place.

I agree with you that "generations" aren't the cause of political problems and that it stems from an unelected, non-representative, beauacracy.

The federal government became too big so Congress delegated too much of its powers/authority away to both the Executive Branch but primarily to 3-letter agencies AND then failed to provide adequate oversight.

Which, led to even a bigger government which Congress can't manage which led to more delegation, which leads to more beauacracy which will in turn lead to more government.

Millennials and Zoomers. Things were great before these degenerates came into power.

Sometime approaching the 2010's or so, that started to dramatically change. Nationalistic sentiment began to be viewed akin to fascism. Identity politics took on far more importance then I have ever seen in my life. Anger and rage replaced disagreement and a kind of arrogant utopianism began to dominate social thinking. I feel like I know my generation and apathy would be its greatest trademark. My brother was a millennial and I can say that this demigod mentality seems most prevalent among them. Boomers wanted to buck their parents. Millennials think everyone and everything needs to be reformed.

Strongly coincides with Obama getting elected and pushing his race division bullshite on everyone.

Everyone who voted for the shite bags who got us here shares the blame, no matter their age.

If you voted for someone wanting to neuter America and make a ton of cash in the process, I'm talking about you.

Tell me who those leaders were. I don't think any generation is responsible so much as our society migrating away from traditional thinking about individual responsibility.

But both boomers (I'm a boomer) and the previous generation have some accountability in that both strove to make life easier for their kids and sometimes lost sight of the need to instill certain ideals that are often only learned through hardship or at least having to strive for things and facing negative consequences if they are not reached.

For reference, I’m 30 and hoping to build a house on a few acres. Nothing crazy, just a big yard for our dogs and a little bit of space between houses. If you aren’t aware, this is unfortunately becoming an unrealistic goal in this country

Definitely some truth in that.

Prices of homes anywhere near us have gone up 200k-300k since 2020.

Where the heck do you live? From what I have seen, prices have not gone up nearly that much. It is true that building is problematic right now. When we looked at it, it would have cost us about 100 K more to build than the house, roughly the same size as our proposed build, on the property next to is failing to sell for now. Their original asking price is probably about 25-40K more than the price would have been in 2019, roughly 8-12%.

The corruption from our politicians that somehow always manage to make millions while in office. I think most of us know that it was not the average boomer (or any poster on this site) that put us in this situation.

If people want to be honest about the direction of the country it starts with The Greatest Generation.

Nixon took us off the gold standard and the leaders of the 60s and 70s started racking up the enormus federal debt.

The first boomer president was Bill Clinton and what we see today was already baked in the cake by then.

Obviously generalizations don't work. There are always exceptions. The elites and politicians of the boomer generation are responsible for where the US is headed though.

Boomers 1946-1964 and here is the list.

1. They raised the Gen Xers and millennials who don't hold traditional American values.

2. Monetized education and decimated American manufacturing. The government got involved in student loans in 1965 but you didn't see substantial price increases until the mid 90s, when boomers started to get positions of power. The movement of manufacturing jobs to east and southeast Asia starts happening heavily in the 90s as well, the exact time boomers start getting high level positions with businesses. This created huge profits for those on top at the detriment of the average American worker.

3. Boomers are the original entitled generation with their youth having massive counter culture movements in the 60s and 70s. Hippies, draft dodgers, black panthers, cults, and more. They were brought into a world their parents and grandparents had absolutely dominated but never made the sacrifices their ancestors made.

4. Boomers have been the largest percentage of representatives in congress since 2000. Every President since Clinton has been a boomer except Joe Biden who was born at the end of the silent generation. I think we would all agree the US government has been at it's lowest these past 25 years.

5. They view everything in a monetized way, even the future of the children of this country. They won't deal with any inconvenience. They'll just print more money or bail out companies. What they are doing with the national debt and social security doesn't phase them because they won't be around when the shite hits the fan.

It’s a combination of multiple generations.

The older generation is stuck on this suck it up and work hard mentality and not realizing that a whole bunch of career jobs do not make enough to afford a decent house like it could in the 80s and 90s

And now, the newest generation wants way too much with little effort put towards it

I fully acknowledge the pieces of shite that came of age in the 60s.

But the current generation is doubling down, and when it fails its on them as much as anyone.

Its hard to cast blame when you vote for more of what put you here

I don’t know but if we had a dictator, I’d want him to:

Ban social media
Ban foreigners and corporations from owning single family homes
Kick out the sugar lobby and get the country back to healthier eating
Stop pandering to “victims”
Get back to locking up criminals

That alone would solve much of the country’s problems.
