Are you talking about the story of the soccer "coach" outside of Nashville (Franklin)? If so, that's about 200 miles away from Maryville.

People need to understand sarcasm lol! We have experienced tremendous growth in East TN and some days you would like to hang a shingle and say “it’s closed”. Traffic is bad enough that they are considering a toll lane through Knoxville to alleviate congestion like they have in Virginia/DC area.

With some posts, sarcasm and stupidity are difficult to differentiate. My bad.

My family has been in East Tennessee since the early 60's. I remember riding on "Oak Ridge Highway" to travel to and from my hometown to Farragut (it wasn't referred to as "West Knoxville back then), because there was no Pellissippi Parkway. I remember before I-275 was straightened out, and having to deal with "Malfunction Junction"...so I understand the desire to turn people away. West Knoxville traffic sucks, and the housing prices have gotten ridiculous.

People living in Tellico Plains telling you how much better they do things up North isn't anything new. That being said...if I can displace an incoming Yankee with someone who posts on Tigerdroppings...I'm 100% for the person who doesn't turn up their nose at grits.

So you are a home builder who sells new houses to unsuspecting transplants from out of the area.

People don’t realize how long Tennessee is.

Friends from back home in LA go to Gatlinburg and ask If I can meet them for dinner.

They don’t understand Baton Rouge is closer to me that Gatlinburg.

HC, do you know anything about the Brentwood (Nashville) area? Daughter 2 is looking to relocate and has a job offering in that area.

Brentwood and Franklin are both very nice. My daughter (no pics) lives in Nashville in the Green Hills area. That's pretty close in town, because she's a PT student at Belmont. She's currently doing a clinical rotation in Brentwood and loves it. Franklin is a little more out of town than Brentwood and both are pretty expensive. But Nashville just isn't that huge (well, I'm in Houston, so it doesn't seem that big) and lots of areas are driveable. She originally lived in Nashville West because it's a little cheaper, but decided to move closer in. Nashville West was just fine as well.

My daughter loves it there. She's not planning on coming back to Houston.

I'm not sure if she has looked at Franklin yet. I think she was looking to stay close to where her job is located, but don't think she isn't ruling anywhere out at this point.

Franklin is close. I'm not sure where she lives now, but most things are pretty close up there. Franklin is literally next to Brentwood.

Bristol is almost as close to Detroit, Philadelphia and Jacksonville as it is to Memphis...and is closer to a lot of other destinations:

Bristol, TN to Memphis, TN - 502 miles

Nearly as close:
Bristol, TN to Detroit, MI - 560 miles
Bristol, TN to Philadelphia, PA - 514 miles
Bristol, TN to Jacksonville, FL - 524 miles

Closer:
Bristol, TN to Pittsburgh, PA - 381 miles
Bristol, TN to Cleveland, OH - 449 miles
Bristol, TN to Washington, DC - 375 miles
Bristol, TN to Atlanta, GA - 325 miles
Bristol, TN to Savannah, GA - 393 miles
Bristol, TN to Birmingham, AL - 368 miles

It is a wide freaking state.

Texas sends her regards. My kids never asked, "Are we there yet?" They always said, "Are we still in Texas?"

Brentwood is a very nice, sprawling suburb 20 min south of Nashville in Williamson Co. Predominately single family homes on large lots. Very expensive -- $1M+ avg sale price. Good schools and parks. Conservative but not a super majority.

For more affordable suburban living nearby, Nolensville to the SE is growing fast or you can go farther south of Franklin to Spring Hill.

Alternatively can go North into Davidson Co. (Nashville). Crieve Hall is a nice neighborhood and more affordable than Brentwood. Bellevue to the west is more affordable but I wouldn't want to commute E-W through those neighborhood roads.

What stage of life is your daughter in? That could open up more possibilities within Davidson Co/Nash Metro while not having a terrible commute to Brentwood.

There are a lot of really nice microbreweries in the area. I went to Ale Rae's Gastropub over the weekend and their taps were down...it made me appreciate how much better the local stuff is than the can/bottle selection.

My latest favorite is the Cocoa Boo at Orange Hat Brewery on Hardin Valley.
