But that's just it. They're not turned on by them. At least, not very many. Most are turned off. You think she's gonna bang her butler?
Further, set aside whether it works (it doesn't) - if the motivation is getting laid, shouldn't women reject these superficial niceties that come attached with those expectations?

I’ll say it’s become a damn if you do damn if you don’t.
I blame the independent woman.
Same goes for just opening any door. Got yelled at once.

I have to gas it, clean it, maintain it, and still open the door for this broad? Nah son

My husband opens my door and helps me jump in the Jeep, every single time. I then reach across, and open his door for him.

Have always opened the doors, pull out her chair if she's not already seated, probably a whole host of things people seldom do any more.
Just the way I was raised, and my boys all do the same.

Not one baw (young or old) opened the car door for his SO. Man, that’s like the least a guy can do to for his lady. Is it really no longer a thing?
It's because they've either been dating for more than two years or married for more than one. I bet she doesn't wash the dishes or do the laundry all the time either.

Guess I'm a dinosaur because I will open the door for my wife when we go places.

I think auto lock/unlock has made the younger generation lazy.
Recently, the battery in my car remote (2020 Grand Cherokee) ran down to the point of the remote buttons not working to unlock the car doors. However, the proximity sensor in it still functioned and if you touched either the driver’s or front passenger’s door handle, it would unlock.
This new situation kinda forced me to go over first to her door and open it for her.
I got used to doing it again for her and even though I have subsequently fixed the remote, I still now open her car door for her again, like I used to do back in the day.

I still do it, but I am REALLY old and it is just hardwired
Power locks mean I do not have to unlock but door opening goes beyond cars to doors as well. Still stand when a lady joins a table. Still pull out chairs.

My mother would sit in the car til I opened the door for her or not go in or out of the store until I did.
Nowadays, I still open the doors and pull out the seats. However, opening the car door I only do if we are going to the car together. Getting out, on their own usually.
Took a couple of friends to dinner recently, mid 20's. Didn't mind at all when I pulled out their chairs at dinner or opened their car doors when I walked them to their car afterwards.
I was sitting at a nice restaurant here a few months ago waiting for my to go order. It was prom night so a flood of tuxes and dresses poured through the door. Noticed some boys would go first and not even hold the door open for their dates. Uh huh. That's just rude.

"Valueless gestures"? One of the many things that has no gender attached to it is just being nice, for its own sake. As in what's wrong with just being nice with no expectations of any kind ? And am curious as to just how you know that females detest such acts of courtesy. I can't see you performing any such acts, so how do you know how a female might feel about something that never happened? Just the contrary, I've been a "gentleman "my whole life & have never received anything but compliments. For something that is only natural for me. The side walk thing bothers you ? Good Lord.

Excuse me but I do this all the time. Sure I get pepper-sprayed occasionally, maybe a few slaps. Random parking lot chivalry is not dead!
