My wife won’t fricking wait for me to do it. I always open doors to buildings and to our house but she will not wait for me to open the car door or pull out her chair

Ouch. She played the bitch card, trumping your courtesy.

Next time, walk out the door, give her a little pat on the arse while saying "Good game", then turn the other way.

Just like walking behind a woman going up stairs and in front of a woman going down them.

I don't think she was being a bitch, I just think that it's a bit sad that young women do not appreciate these gestures - even if most people think they are outdated. But the way I was brought up at home and after 16 years of Catholic school, these things are ingrained in me. I will not easily change these behaviors.

I know people who would pay to see this!

Younger women realize this always allows you to have the drop on them.

The ladies love it. We need to recover some basic manners.

I open building doors but I almost never open the car door for my wife because I always drop her off at the entrance and pick her up from there. It would feel a little performative to jump out of the car run around open the door and then run back around to park the car.

If you have a date with someone is it far to ask if they are traditional or modern?

If modern then expect to have casual sex, split the check, and open your own doors?

Are you kidding?

Bitches don’t like this shite. It makes them look weak and in need of patriarchal support.

Why do you hate women?

I notice that I instinctively do this, but I always feel bad because she usually winds up with what I would consider the shite view.

To younger guys this is more of a test for your girl than just being chivalrous. If you open the door for her, as you should, and she doesn’t reciprocate by reaching across and opening your door as you walk around the vehicle she fails.

Oh, and make sure she’s black

I can't believe I'm saying this, as this is usually the province of Marxists and other losers, but those of y'all confused by modernity's rejection of these behaviors could stand to engage in some logical deconstruction of what expectations the behaviors communicate and why. If you did, you'd see how performative and silly a bunch of them are.

quote:

Not one baw (young or old) opened the car door for his SO. Man, that’s like the least a guy can do to for his lady.

She's not a five year old. She can open and close her own damn door. Why would you take pride in meeting an expectation fit for her butler, anyway?

quote:

I’m a stickler for elevator etiquette too. Women enter before I do and exit before I do. I’ve taught this to my male kids. Older women appreciate it; younger women seem confused by it.

I can't imagine why a woman might be worried about a strange man insisting on remaining in her visual blind spot.

quote:

What is more confusing to younger women is that the guy should walk on the street side. A while ago, I was leaving the courthouse in DC with a much younger female lawyer. We were walking a few blocks to the parking garage. As we crossed streets she seemed befuddled that I would come around from behind her and walk on the outside.

Same observation. And besides, what are you gonna do, catch a runaway car in your bare hands for the little lady?

quote:

I don't think she was being a bitch, I just think that it's a bit sad that young women do not appreciate these gestures - even if most people think they are outdated.

Why should she? What value do you think you've added to her life with these performances? What is there to appreciate?

It's just so performative and pointless. Modern women neither want nor appreciate any of this shite. And the more traditionally minded women basically only want or appreciate it because their dads told them they should decades ago. They're valueless gestures at best and signal a subservience that women hold in disdain at worst. They certainly do nothing for you besides preserve an ego-identity of a "real man" that has little real-world relation to what people actually respect out of a "real man." So why do it?
