You either get your work done or you don't. I don't need extra check ins from management to get my work done.

Its extremely role dependent. I know some people who are massively more productive at home, but their role is conducive to it. Coming to the office just leads to them being forced to frick off more.

If you're role is such that you spend all day every day on zoom calls, it doesn't really matter where you are.

Option A - work from home. Get a little extra morning sleep. T-shirt and shorts. Get 5-6 hours of solid, undistracted work in, call it quits around 4 (12 on Fridays).

This is me and we go in 3 days a week. I do think it is wrong to disappear from your "desk" for extended periods of time simply because you are at home. If you wouldn't have gone swimming while in the office, for example, personally I don't think you should just because you can since you are home.

No it isn't. Blaming management for lack of assignments or lack of productivity or lack of role clarity is a such a chicken shite cop out. Its crutch used by the lazy/stupid/incompetent.

This isn't college. Find something that is a problem, convert it into a non-problem, let your manager know you're handling shite, move up in the world.

Lack of productivity is the employee's fault. Lack of assignment is the manager's fault.

If the employee is supposed to assign their own work, then their manager's role is useless and should be eliminated.

WFH has turned careers into jobs. It has increased turnover, decreased employee engagement, efficiency, and more often than not, productivity.

The people who will be running companies in 15 years will simply be the ones who stuck around because they don't like change. Hopefully I'll be sunsetting my career by then and won't have to worry about that shite show.

I don't see it as "micromanaging". It is a combination of 2 things:
1. in lieu of "managing by walking around", which has its merits.
2. Accountability- and that's the trade off. If a supervisor wants to do his job he must supervise. If the employee is remote that's the only way to supervise other than showing up at their house.

Are you the shift manager at McDonald's? Please tell me you aren't managing people who make more than minimum wage

Turnover has increased because there is absolutely no loyalty shown by management at most companies anymore. Employees have figured out that the only way to make more money is to change companies, because all of them will pay an external hire more than they'd pay someone being promoted from within for the same role.

If you value an employee, prove it in their paycheck. Gold stars and pats on the back are absolutely useless.

WFH allows employees to look at a broader scope of available jobs because they don't have look for jobs in a specific location anymore. I guess that part has contributed to employee turnover.

These are the people who are against remote working. Managers whose idea of managing is "managing by walking around"

When i did have an office job, i could legit get everything done in 3 hours at most. So i would slowly do stuff to spread stuff out all day.

That was pretty much everyone there when you really looked at it.

The truth is that most jobs are just not jam packed with work everyday. So even if they came into the office, it’s not gonna magically make more work

I'd love to read some of the posts on this subject in the very near future when jobs are being axed due to tech.

And I don't like it. I get more stressed out when I don't have a full workload.

like a hybrid two days a week approach.

This. My job just started requiring 3x days a week but I would much rather prefer 2x. Less time in your car, less time your kids have to spend at daycare, more time for family, and I actually get more done at home without the distractions.

I agree hybrid is the way to go.
But in some areas remote is perfectly fine. But you have to Micro manage a bit more with deadlines and deliverables...i love being able to work from home when needed but I still like the office setting.
