In what order do you eat a plate of sushi like this?

I have to eat the questionable stuff first…while I’m still hungry AF.
Squid, Mackerel, Octopus, Scallop…then the good stuff (although I actually
like raw scallops). Not sure why they topped the Snapper (IDK what that is actually) with a damn compote…I just scraped that crap off.

I'd go right to left assuming the bottom of the picture would be the "right side" of the plate. Squid and Octopus are good stuff. Haven't had mackerel sushi before.

I'd go from right
into the trash and then into the dump.

I'm good with everything but the mackerel in any order. That stuff sucks, and I normally would just leave it on the plate

Pro tip: if you're eating raw seafood overseas, eat what you like first.
I once gulped down some nasty sea slugs to get them off my plate, and the host promptly ordered me more thinking they were my favorite.

The chimichurri on the mackerel was good as well
I don't think that's chimuchurri .... it's raw wasabi stem, that is grated and pickled far superior to the powdered stuff.
That shite will light you up and very hot. Often sold under the Kizami brand at Asian food markets.
A little goes a long way, this is all you need to compliment any nigiri.
I'd eat the mackerel first since it's my least favorite of the items pictured.

I’m going to need an even number and then go from there.

Top to bottom. Leaving the tuna with sriracha for last as sort of the palate cleanser.

At first, I thought the mackerel would be oily, but definitely not and the texture is also nice. I'd probably eat the salmon or tuna last.

According to what I've been taught, you eat the lighter (leaner) flavor food first and finish with the heavier (fatty) flavor last. White fish first followed by silver skin fish, then red fish, and finish with shellfish.
For your plate, I would start with the ika (squid) which is the lightest (leanest) in flavor, followed by what you called snapper, which actually looks like the hamachi belly to me (would make total sense if you ordered omakase because hamachi has very little belly meat but it tastes like butter), and then the saba (mackerel).
Next maguro (tuna) and then sake (salmon) as a matter of preference.
Finally finishing with the tako (octopus) and hotate (scallop).
I'm really confused by what looks like blueberry compote on the hamachi belly. I've seen sweet garnish on sushi before, but blueberry seems out of place and not something I would enjoy. I would have scraped it off too, just like you, leaving a trace amount so I could try to understand it.

Which one is the squid? Octopus is first?
I would think that a place would place them in order from one direction to the next, but I would agree with others the ‘best way’ would be white meat first to oily last.
As said the more proper way would be to eat your favorites first, but yes naturally to finish I’d have to eat my least favorite first.
Those seem like large pieces? I’ve never understood giving such large pieces for nigiri as it’s generally supposed to be one bite/ one mouthful.

This thread is good at exposing the faux sushi eaters here. Just order a plate of gyoza and some tempura and be happy.
