quote:If I'm not mistaken, that was the "expansion" Browns first franchise win. It was like deja vu for longtime Saints fans that witnessed both first time franchise wins against the Saints (Tampa Bay) and Hail Mary/Big Ben Right (Falcons) against the Saints.
went to the Browns-Saints game with my stepdad in 1999.
Saints led the whole game and the browns scored on a hail mary on the last play. A Tipped pass in the endzone.
We picked that game to go to because... you might have guessed it... felt like we'd win that one.
I think 1980 was the worst for me, went 1-15, during the season Times-Picayune/State Times ran a competition of who would be the Saints first win, I think they started when we were 0-7 or so. We didn't win until beating the Jets in week 15. I was a young kid then and big sports fan already and actually won part of the prize pool by picking week 15 against the Jets. It was like $5 or something.
We're not as near as in worse shape as we were back then.

I watched John Gillium’s kickoff return in Tulane Stadium with my dad. He died of old age before he could see a Super Bowl. I thought I would do the same.
I was in the stadium in Miami though.
1980 was rock bottom.

I went to several Super Bowls with my dad. Just not one with the Saints in it.

Hopeless is in the head of the individual. I've been watching since the beginning and always had hope. Hopelessness is for the whiners, the win fans, and the bag heads.... Bedatitwas...

The Katrina season was damn depressing and hopeless both with the on-field product and the San Antonio rumors.
This is why i respect the organization’s commitment to keeping us with that 7-9ish floor and why the talking heads can swivel on my gigantic white cock

Honestly, after Week 2 of the 2017 season, I thought it was over. Coming off three straight losing seasons, and starting off 0-2 that year, I remember leaving the Dome after the Pats beat us down, thinking that Payton had lost touch with the team/game and that it was time to move on from Brees.
Thought for sure we were about to go back to Ditka-like years.
Playoff results aside, we immediately go on to have the most successful stretch in franchise history. Go figure.

This is the kind of thread when you can easily tell who has followed the Saints for more than 25 years.

Most recently, the 41-10 loss in the dome to panthers towards end of 2014.I swore that was it, that was the end of the Payton/Brees era. Still feels like one of the most hopeless teams I've watched personally that day in the dome.
Before that, I remember leaving a game, must have been like 4th or 5th game of season; during Ditka's last year (1999) in 2nd quarter when I was a kid with my Dad saying he's done with the saints, he had gone to almost every saints game since opening season. We had season tickets and we didn't go to a single other game that year, and then they fired him and Dad came back around.

Interesting question. Being bad was all I ever really knew. Yeah there were times like the dome patrol, some good seasons here and there. Never felt like it was hopeless. I always had hope as a kid and then as an adult. This is what made it so special doing things like winning a playoff game. Then ultimately winning the Super Bowl. It was really special that night.

Nah man thats the thing about the NFL. Literally any team can get hot season to season. And these league does a damn good job at selling hope. I havent felt the Saints were out of it before the season started in over 20 years. Older fans couldnt dream of shite like this.
