I paid cash price of $90

Yeah.
That’s around the going rate.

They charge ridiculous prices because the consumer is shielded from the actual cost by insurance.

Did your insurance cover anything? Were there no payment adjustments on the bill?
Doesn’t make any sense. Someone made a mistake.

Insurance doesn’t cover calcium CT tests, but they’re usually cheap enough that nobody cares.

$6k, they're most certainly screwing you through mis-application of ICD-10 codes or something, or the DR order didn't include something that they needed to make it a justifiable cost.
I'd suggest going back to the cardiologist and explaining what happened when they read you the results. And do not pay. I've gotten MRIs that cost 1/3 of that (out of pocket), it is bullshite.
Just don't pay until they send you to collections, and offer to pay them $200.
Since I got buried on P1...

Contact your insurance and have them get in contact with the provider. From all the previous answers there's something screwy going on. Might be an employee of the provider trying to make some $ or something like that.

I have had the test and it was under $100 cash to my doctor.

Mine was $105 about 2 months ago. They said insurance didn’t cover it that it was a cash paid procedure .

Insurance doesn’t pay for coronary calcium scores. At least in Louisiana. It’s a $50 charge at our clinic. Might be different at other facilities but shouldn’t be more than $200. They either billed for the wrong service or you made a mistake in what you thought you were being billed for.

Don’t pay it. Offer $100.

Which health system is trying to screw you over? Post em up!!!!! I have that they do this to people.
My doc charges 100 bucks. Nothing hidden.

You paid for a few dozen indigents. TYFYS

I pay to get this done every few years. I believe it costs about $2500.
It must be a different test. The one I do is a big machine they roll you into and it whirrs for a few minutes, then done. Then they tell you how much of something or another that you have built up, and supposedly calcium buildup is proportionate to that.
Sorry for the vagueness, but medical terms go in one ear and out the other for me.

I am having one later this month for $150. That’s insane.
I had one done about six weeks ago, cost was $75, and the hospital didn’t even ask for my insurance card, because most insurance companies won’t pay for it. Strictly a cash transaction.

I don’t know what this calcium test is. But I would tell them to take their bill and shove it up their own arse.
If they aren’t happy, they can try to sue me in court, but I can delay that for 10 years or more. After which, my arse will be 6’ under and I will have paid a decent attorney to protect my assets for my children.
