Jadzia Dax could definitely get it, love to see how far those spots really go

I read the other day Gene R. didn’t get paid for his royalties on any ST stuff until TNG debuted in the 90’s.
Gene would ask “where is the money?” and the studio claimed ST was not a profitable franchise
When TNG was green lit, his lawyer snuck language in their new contract saying “Gene has the right to audit the financials of Star Trek”….. Studio assumed it meant only TNG…. Lawyer intentionally left it broad so he could retroactively review ALL ST properties. And that forced the studio to FINALLY pay Gene all of his royalties.

I loved the first ST movie. You need to understand, those of us who had grown up with TOS had had nothing except a cartoon for years
I agree.
I grew up watching TOS in syndication every day after school. I get that STtM was long and brainy but that’s what I liked about it. It contrasted well as an adult, envisioned world vs Star Wars and some of the other offering.
Wrath of Khan was the bomb. Best ever. The one with the whales was great too as it was a throwback to the “return to past earth” episodes in TOS.
Beyond that, the more campy and silly they got I lost interest.
I also liked TNG and even Voyager was really good…..or maybe it was just Jeri Ryan in the cat suit.
I enjoyed the new movies for what they are but they don’t come close to the first 4 movies. The Critical Drinker was spot on with the modern movies and series being like children running around and being emotional and yelling at everyone.

For me definitely Wrath Of Khan

I tell folks to watch DS9 with the expectation of a different kind of story and plot than other Trek, but just happens to be in the same universe.
Indeed!
To me, this was the first scene which really underscored that Trek characters didn't have to all be cut from the same moral cloth.

Start with the original motion picture and go for as long as you like it. The 5th movie sucks but the 6th is really good. With the TGN crew it picks up a lot after season 1, the first Movie is not good and you can skip Picard seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 was good.
Thanks, I was looking for some stuff to watch this weekend because I thought we might get rain all day today, but didnt.

Generations wasn't good, but it was the truest to the tv characters. In FC, Insurrection, and Nemesis 7 years of tv character development gets flushed down the toilet.
If I had to rank:
Khan
Undiscovered Country
Voyage Home
Search for Spock
TMP
Star Trek Beyond
Star Trek FC
Star Trek (REBOOT)
Insurrection
Generations
Into Darkness
Nemesis and final Frontier
Two awful awful movies.

I agree with your movie conclusions and points. WOK is a timeless great and I really liked the first two revamps. I like the original series as a kid (in syndication lol) but it’s just really dated. Liked TNG but not overboard. I remember watching it usually but not sure why, like it was some routine or something not because I had to see it. I’ll have to revisit that out of curiosity.
ETA: Sorry can’t really rank them, just too many apples and oranges.

Damn that’s crazy.

Forget the movies for now and just start with TNG. Sadly the most recent stuff is garbage beyond Strange New Worlds. TNG is old, but it holds up extremely well and will give you a crash course in Star Trek.
You’ll be hooked.

It makes me wonder if DS9 even gets made if Roddenberry had been alive and in creative control. He preferred his Star Trek to be a "humanity at its best" - DS9, while an amazing show, was definitely not that.

No, because they would have cancelled TNG before the fourth season if Roddenberry stayed in charge of that show.

The worst is Nemesis. It makes no sense. A clone of Picard wants to destroy the Federation... why? The Romulans are the ones who kept his mother on a prison work moon. The Romulans are the folks he should want to destroy.
The rumor was that in the original script, it was a bastard child of Picard and not a clone. That actually makes more sense. And yes, Picard could have had a kid that he knew nothing about. Allegedly Patrick Stewart did not like the idea of Picard with a bastard so they changed it to a clone.
Story make zero sense but the worst part to me was how little emotion everyone had after Data died. I don't care what anyone says, they treated him like a broken toaster that could be replaced by B4. Data strove to be human and in the end, his friends did not treat him like one. I've seen people show more emotion for a dog being shot in a movie than they showed for Data. And I don't mean characters in a movie showing emotion for their dead dog. I mean people in the movie theater weeping over Little Ann and Old Dan.

Jumping out from the movies and into now, I have just binged on the final season of Picard and am currently binging on Star Trek Discovery, both on Paramount+ and I am thoroughly enjoying myself watching both. Loved pre-quad Capt. Christopher Pike episodes. He would be one of the top captains, easily of the level of Kirk and Picard.

This might be my winner for least favorite but it has one of my favorite Bones lines ever.
Kirk to Spock: "Forgive you? I oughta knock you on your goddamn arse."
Spock: "If you think it would help."
Bones: "Do you want me to hold him, Jim?"
In terms of favorite, original cast would either be Khan or Undiscovered Country. TNG is definitely First Contact.
