TulaneLSU’s Top 10 Air Jordans
10. Jordan I (1985)
Included for historical reasons. Stylistically, it is boring. Perhaps a necessary step to transition the shoe world from the mundane to individualism.
9. Jordan XXXVI (2021)
Is it the upside down Omega or angel wings? Either way, if I wore tennis shoes, I might wear a pair of these.
8. Jordan III (1987)
Notable for being architect Tinker Hatfield’s first Jordan and the first Jordan with visible air pockets. The Jordan III is arguably more important than the Jordan I, as it was well known Jordan did not particularly like the design of the first two Air Jordans and was considering leaving Nike before they showed him this shoe.
7. Jordan XXXII (2017)
The heel borrows and expands on the Jordan II ribbed heel. The clean look was quite the change from the previous two decades of gaudiness.
6. Jordan XII (1996)
Overshadowed by its predecessor in '95, its undulating flare it slick and sightly.
5. Jordan XXXVII (2022)
Not a popular style among the Jordan fans I know. They complain it is too plain. It has been a financial flop for Nike, and it is one of the few Jordans that has required a steep discount to get rid of inventory. Is this a sign that the Jordan line, at least newly designed Jordans, is falling out of favor? For the first time since 1985, a newly released Air Jordans is under $100.
4. Jordan VI (1991)
These were the shoes everyone in school wanted. To have them was to be cool. But Mother never let me wear Jordans.
3. Jordan IV (1989)
Spike Lee. Craig Ehlo. Captain Mike. These three figures cemented the IV in my mind. Mars Blackmon told us, “it’s gotta be the shoes” while pointing to these shoes. Craig Ehlo watched in defeat as Jordan jumped with joy in these. And Captain Mike in 2001 had an old pair of these hanging behind his house in Bucktown. Too bad he didn’t have them on when we caught that hardhead that pierced his foot.
2. Jordan V (1990)
This was number one on my Christmas list in 1990. Can anyone get me a pair?
1. Jordan XI (1995)
1995 was the pinnacle for Nike design. This version was Hatfield’s best work. It’s an embodiment of silkiness that is probably the most sold of all Jordans after the I. It’s also Jordan’s personal favorite.

Tulane...your writing is delectable. And what's more has me looking up words I do not know, which is all too rare a treat in this place. I know some will scold you for "twenty dollar words", but the truth is they are simply the perfect descriptions of what you convey in the most efficient package. And looking them up takes but an instant these days.
Please, (though I am not familiar enough to call you friend, I, with all due humility, consider myself at the least an unworthy peer), think about returning to the OT. Den of philistines though it is, you make it a better place.
Best regards...

The Downs Lounge. Fine drinks served by cute fillies.

No doubt the XI is the GOAT….BUT the XII with the Carolina Blue trim was a damn fine show as well.

Everyone should work a Jordan launch at a retail store. It was an amazing experience.

How many Chinese children do you think were whipped and tortured in factories to make these shoes?

Double posts this long shouldn't be allowed.

I agree with number 1, but I have 13s in my top five.

By being in the NBA Eastern conference, the Bulls only played once per season at Dallas. A Bulls team that finished with a 44-38 record, beat a Mavericks team that finished 44-38, 107-97 on March 23rd, 1985, the first time I saw him play in person.
Michael had 20 points, so that game was a disappointing one for Dallas fans because this was when every team the Bulls played wanted to see Jordan score 50 points in a loss This was his 2nd season. Michael had been injured and didn't play in the one game during the previous season. I don't really remember anything about the game except for a couple of dunks he had. I had to look up when they played and the results.
What happened after the game is something I'll never forget!
Sam Perkins was a UNC teammate of Jordan's for three years He and another UNC alum, Al Wood, were on that Mavs team. After the game all three had showered and dressed, and were leaving Reunion Arena at the same time I was. I stayed about five yards behind them all the way out. When they opened the door to the players parking enterence, it looked like a TV report on The Beatles. Maybe 50 fans had gotten into the lot, and there was a big white stretch Lincoln limo in the middle of them.
They took off running for the limo, the driver cleared out enough room to open the door, and they all dove in together. It was one of the coolest things I've seen, especially by accident. I've seen many other pro athletes in a few crazy situations after games, but I can't replay any of them in my head the way I can with that.
Just as memorable for me was one of the fans,
He had one of the first Air Jordans in his hand, and he kept saying, "$125, and the Mother f*cker wouldn't even sign it."
Back to All Things Air Jordan" including the Air movie that I haven't seen yet.
Does the movie cover how big a deal it was to be Team Air?
When the Jordans first got so crazily popular, it was a big deal to be one of Mike's guys that was supplied with Air Jordans. Michael Finley was an inner-city kid from Chicago, that Mike took under his wing when Finley was in high school. Not only did Finley wear Air Jordans, he did the same game day ritual of dressing to the nines for every game. Any time you saw video of either, talking to the media after the game, they were back in the suit they wore to the game, or another one if he was going out. They didn't do interviews until they had redressed. Mike was still doing that when he was a Wizzard. I think Mike probably told Michael about how, and why, he did that, and it stuck. That sucked for the media, because they were the guys you needed to get quotes from for articles, and you had to literally stand around and wait.
There are some crazy stores about who could and couldn't wear them.
XI's look better than any dress shoe with a matching tux. It's like watching Boardwalk Empire and Nucky is wearing his spats!
Sorry I posted this after my evening meds.
