This is a rain trace from a @WeatherSTEM site just east of the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Over the last 6 hours they have received more than 20" of rain. It's currently still raining as hard if not harder than earlier today...

This whole deal started out as a city-sized supercell.

Yea, it's a very odd mesoscale event being driven by the Gulf low, and the associated warm front dropped across S. Florida.

There have been a few stationary supercells associated with that mess over the past few days. There was one SE of NOLA the other day that got tor warned and wasn't moving at all. Decent couplet, but I don't think it ever put one down.

Over 22.5" of rain has now been measured at the Fort Lauderdale airport. That's since 3pm.

Outside of that area not bad

Yep, it is pretty localized. Even crazier to think that had it set up five miles farther east there wouldn't be a problem.

I’m guessing they have a pretty damn good drainage system in that area.

The airport has been hit pretty hard. It hasn't been able to handle the water very well.

CSU with their first forecast, and to the dismay of many, they didn't predict a hyperactive season.
