This is rare even in Major College Baseball. She might see a 90+ fastball every now and then, but no one at the schools she is playing against is doing this.

Wow. Women can play mens sports as good as the men. We are all equal physically after all.

The Ivy League does not offer scholarships, so guessing it's kinda like a walk on program?

Why is this a thing? This isn’t like a girl playing football because they don’t have the sport. They can play softball. Leave it to the Ivy League to destroy America.

Im assuming this is a cis gender female.

Why arent there any transmen on the men's teams?

some of y’all really need to leave your podunk towns and travel. Did you know women can even have JOBS NOW?? Better not let your daughters know that. They might aspire to get out of the kitchen

This is like saying Mo Isom should have been lsus kicker just because. forget if she is even better than the guys on the team, just put her in or you hate women. Forgetting she played college soccer on the womens team, so its not like her dreams and aspirations are crushed.

Some of y’all are ate up over a story that should have been “oh cool, good for her” and move on. This doesn’t seem to be like the Vandy kicker who was clearly just a SJW prop. This girl at least got up and made contact as a PH, which is more than 95% of this thread could do.
My whole point is if she can do that, she would be a tremendous softball player. She ain’t going pro in either baseball or softball, but she could be a big deal in college if she’s good enough to make contact in baseball.

This is dumb, hurts female sports and I would tell either of my 2 daughters that they would be dumb to let themselves be used as pawns in a pathetic publicity stunt like this. This isn’t sports as there is almost exactly a zero % chance she is an D1 or even D3 baseball talent. It’s a political/social statement trying to prove a point while simultaneously making a mockery of the sport and every athlete who worked hard to play it.

She was almost assuredly allowed to make contact. Even with the that league being one of the lowest levels of D1 this was certainly orchestrated and discussed before hand.

I think you are confused on the reason for women sports. Men's sports are the default. We never needed our own league, because it was always ours. Men are athletically superior, so woman would never have a fair shot competing against women.

Women sports leagues exist so women can have a fair shot at actually playing sports. Men can't play women sports because we would automatically dominate, it's no longer fair for women at all. For the small minority of elite women who could compete in a men's team, they'd still be near the bottom of the barrel and basically the equivalent of a bench warmer.

This girl being allowed to hit a pitch does not cause a danger to men's sports. Because men are still men, and women are still women.

Shohei Ohtani made Mike Trout look absolutely foolish last night—what’s your point?

I don't understand why they don't just have women's baseball in college rather than softball. Hey lets let the women play with a bigger ball and have the mound and bases closer. Somehow that's not seen as insulting. It is pretty funny though.

It's really the only sport that they make a different version for the women. You don't see women's basketball with a shorter court and bigger hoop. You don't see women's tennis with a bigger racquet.

you're right about the league she's playing in but a ton of MLB players throw 95+ mph fastballs now. The average fastball at the MLB level in 2022 was right at 94. Hell, every starting pitcher LSU has throws 95 or better, and a good number of the relief guys can. And that's just college baseball. So to say it's rare to face a major leaguer throwing 95 is just not accurate.

Sounds like D1 baseball should be exempt from Title IX since girls are allowed to play.

My biggest thing is that they want equality, so they think it’s fine for women to play with the men, but if a male wanted to play softball that would never happen

It’s a bunch of bullshite

The progressive belief that "sexism", and not biology, is the reason that women's sports are viewed below men's is a bunch of bull.

The media circle jerk around a token achievement is also a bunch of bullshiite.

But the men's division has always been the open division, and the women's division a carve out for females who overwhelmingly would not be competitive in sport. In that case there is a societal benefit to particpating in sport, so having a carve out for the 50% of the population born with vaginas makes sense.

There have been girls on some high school football teams for decades (usually because there are certain situations and area demographics where she may be the best kicker around).

In this case, a girl playing in a crappy league on a crappy team, pinch-hit and had a perfectly competent result, to light media coverage. In this case, I don't see anything to be outraged about.

Now, if she comes out and says something like "Sexism is the reason they wont let me play MLB"..... then yeah, fire away.
